I was trying to upgrade the firmware on a 996t, but it is not on the list anymore. I was wondering what happened?

Look at this thread - http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-thread-archives/168203-996t-firmware.html

Take note of instructions based on what firmware you already have in it now ->
MENU, SETTINGS, See Scanner Info, Firmware Version

You have to register it and fill all that info in and then it will generate a registration key.

This is what I have used to get all the updates to work, its based for a 396T but the idea and what to put in is the same. Yes its ridiculous how they made the 396T - 996T owners do those, but at least you only have to do it once!

--------------------------------------------

Example E-S/N:
32826164047119
Check SUM:
14D
M-Ver:
1
In order to update 396T to the latest, the radio MUST BE regged on the uniden site.

Run the BCD396T_ESN_Loader_V1_20_13 program, gets the reg info into the scanner.

Then it should put a text file on the desktop with all the info as well.
Regging it, the 1st part of the ESN, * serial Number

E/S/N: 328Z
32826164
ESN: Take the last 9 digits since the 32826 is provided - or if fails on wrong #, input the 328 -
also uncheck major update box
164047119
ESN Checksum
14D

then once done, go to all my scanners, click on get product key etc. then use that for the Registration key for firmware update. Otherwise the update WILL FAIL!

1. The radio is not even listed.
2. If you cannot register it, you cannot update it.
3. The radio in question is a BCD996t, not a BCD396t.

You need to go to the site and try it for yourself.
And, yes I know how to do the firmware.

You must use the links and update at BCD996TFirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki. It sounds like you are attempting to use the version used on later models, which won't work (the BCD996T won't even be listed as an updatable model!).

Thanks for the response.

The link still brings me to myuniden.com and the radio is not listed as you say. What is interesting is the 396t is still listed and that is an older radio.

Is there another website to go to, or do I have to call in and try to register the radio?

It is funny how the 996p2 is listed and not the t model.

#1 & 2 if you went to the thread I mentioned it had all that info and how to do it.
#3 I mentioned that in my reply.

yes I did go to the site and I tried it myself, I checked it out prior to replying.

here is the link to my uniden at where once you register, it will give you the esn to put in the updater.
myUniden - Customer Product Registration and Support Area

and the thread I mentioned, especially look at comment #3.

What version does your radio have? I mentioned in my reply,
MENU (the side button), SETTINGS, See Scanner Info, Firmware Version

If as UPMan said yours is 1.04 or later you have to go to myuniden to register it and you then can still use my reference notes as to what to put in for your particular radio's esn.

How do you register a radio if it is not listed?

Again, it is not listed, so it cannot be registered.

I have been able to recently register 2 different 996ts for friends to help them
get their 996ts updated firmware wise so I don't know where your issues lie:

All I had to do is log into My Uniden, Select 996t as the model number then enter the required information. Can't get any easier than that.

It wasn't his fault. When we switched to our old site, the model got deactivated. I just reactivated it and it will work, now.

Good for Paul as usual, but if you would have elaborated to say something about that you already have an account at myuniden and the 996T is no longer listed at the myuniden site this would have saved us all the effort, your time and Paul would have seen that and fixed it days sooner.

Upon finding the information out about already having an account, I can see by reading between the lines in all the statements its now clear what you wanted to do and all the other responders also were clearly confused as well.

Ultimately I'm glad things are now proceeding accordingly! ;)

It was on my first post:

Maybe you went right past it, I don't know. You cannot select the radio to register it without first being logged in.

I think it was because clearly the firmware update is on Uniden.com. You meant to say that registration was not there.
