I cannot open the bcd396t_v1_08_078.scn file and Therefore I think it has directions on installing update Help.

You need that uplader program too. I had no problem.

Is that program the bc_vur_v1.0.0.08.exe if so I downloaded it and ran it first. My computer is not finding the proper program to open a scn file that they instruct me to open second.

i down loaded the programs from my mac and had to do the IBM thing with the firmware update on such.

make sure that the file ends with .scn and not scn .txt
If it has the .txt youll nned to take it off

You don't open the .scn file with your computer, you open it with the bc_vup program. Run the bc_vup program in the Guided mode and follow the directions.

Don't bother, it Fu*&ed up my 396's APCO decoding. I now get a delay and digital noise.

I have tried to load the update on several computers and the guide directions keep telling me i have the wrong firmware and i know it is correct and its making me tired of the process. any ideas my next step i guess is to call uniden

Check your com port. Mine was telling me that before I realized I had selected the wrong com port. When I changed to the correct port, the software loaded.
