Actually trying to update the firmware in a BCD996p2. I have the BC_VUP3 installed, but when I go to get the scanner to talk to the computer, NADA/ZILCH.

You do have the serial driver installed, I presume.

Have you checked the Device Manager to look at which port it is set to? The port # can change if you use a different USB port on the PC.

Well that’s the hiccup...when I download the drivers and extract, there’s nothing more than a couple of non-executable files! I’m not the best with computers...got me stumped!

Open the Device manager

Look at the Com & LTP ports

If you show one of the Com ports with a yellow warning, right click on it. (mine are all working, but if you see one that is not, that's the one to click on.)

If you select "Update Driver", then you can browse to the folder where your extracted driver file resides.

Or, you can click Properties.
That gets you to a window item that also has an 'update driver' link.

Those files ARE the drivers. Follow these instructions from the Uniden website:
When prompted, select the uniden_usbser.inf file.

If you are having problems installing the drivers, see the following general instructions (some steps might differ slightly, depending on your specific operating system).

Download and unzip the above driver.
  1. Plug in the scanner using a USB cable.
  2. Right click on the Windows Launch icon (bottom left corner) and select "Device Manager."
  3. The device shows up with a yellow triangle.
  4. Right click on device and select "Update Driver Software."
  5. Select "Browse My Computer for Driver Software."
  6. Navigate to the folder where you have unzipped the above driver.
The driver installed and is assigned as: Uniden Serial Port (COMx)
(x) will be replaced with the actual port number.
