First Energy covers many areas, located in Northampton and Lehigh still remember the days of them using 37.54 and 37.52 which are long gone.

Used to be able to pick up the 800mhz EDACS system they were using but lately nothing, just curious if anyone knows if system is still active or down,

PPL still has the low band radios installed in trucks but other that energize and de-energize lines thats eh only reason they use them 37.700 or local chit chat.

Met Ed in my area has no radio equipment. After they
ditched the EDACS system, they went on the state open sky
system for a period but the coverage was so poor, they gave up
and removed all the equipment from their trucks and cars.
They use cell phones now....

PPL uses their bases and mobiles to some extent around here, and so thankfully they have a stand-alone communication system that they can use in the event of a major incident, esp. one that takes out cell communications or degrades them (note that they can also be capacity-degraded by everyone and their brother / neighbor / etc. making unnecessary calls during any major incident of any type). Any utility company that thinks cell phones are the be all and end all for their mission critical communications is run by people with their head in the sand. I outlined the reasons why in another post on another topic, but I don’t recall under what heading. Still, you can all figure it out. I hope MetEd has a lot of spare vehicles and staff to act as message runners when they are getting zero bars or "NO SERVICE" messages...
