To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).
This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.
Do you have the listing? I think I saw that one. It’s on a spool and dose not have ends on it. If so how easy is it to put them on? What tools do I need to get.

I was implying that somewhere but nowhere specific is a roll of Heliax with your name on it. You can install most Heliax connectors with a box cutter knife, hacksaw, flat file and a pair of adjustable wrenches or maybe a pair of channel lock pliers. And for 1/2" a soldering gun for the center pin. Larger size Heliax has a hollow center conductor and the center pins screw in.

I was searching online and found a RFS BA6312-1 antenna for sale. I know is says it’s 3dBd/5dBi and I was looking at a 9 dBd. But being that it is a commercial antenna vs a consumer grade one would it be better at my height. I want to say no because how low I am as it is.

I would love to find someone localish to me talk to and work with to make it right but I don’t currently so I am learning it my self. That is what the gmrs world is about learning and growing right? Not just give it to someone and have it done right just to do it. I want to learn and become self sufficient. And I feel the only way to do that is ask questions here where this is specialized and through guided trial and error.
I am curious.. Why would an individual put up a GMRS repeater that is going to be used by anyone in the area? It's not like one can charge for access? I understand how nice it is to have two-way radio comms with family, but the ROI is gonna catch up and bite you. I wish there was way to charge for such access. Is cell phone service not available in your area? Or is this a disaster preparedness project?
GMRS repeaters are private property and owners are permitted to charge users for access. Many use that as a way to offset site lease, upkeep, power, etc.
Some families don't mind the cost and enjoy using the radio. ROI can be a tough pill to swallow for some, especially if you don't have a free location to mount it.
