I bought an SDR transceiver recently and I've been reading up on proper usage online. I know I need to have a 50Ohm SMA terminator or antenna on TX/RX before powering on the transceiver but I'm curious about a few other things as well. The transceiver has 1 TX/RX "chain", if that is the proper term for it, and 1 RX chain. If I run in half duplex does the 1 RX need to be terminated as well? I have also read that the receive and transmit antennas need to be away from each other. I had originally planned on using 2 right angle SMA adapters with antennas but I've read that this could cause major problems because that would place them an inch apart. Lastly the output power is only 100 mW. I've read that you need to be careful with transceivers because they can accidentally pick up and broadcast leaky transmissions from near by electrical devices. Is there any risk of this happening if I am only receiving on TX/RX? I feel like some of these questions are silly, but I would rather make a fool of myself than burn out a perfectly working device or be fined by the FCC.
