I enjoy this page, too. Unfortunately, due to homeland security paranoia, the display is delayed far enough behind real life that an aircraft can traverse two or three ATC sectors during the lag. What you see is not what you hear.

Interesting that you see that Dave, at most when I track flights, the delay is on avg 10 mins.

It only takes a couple of minutes to cross a sector in Boston ARTCC airspace around eastern New York. They aren't very big.

I'm with Shaft on this one.
Generally I find FlightAware is delayed by 8-15 minutes.
This is based on seeing various webcams and listening to scanner traffic in the north atlantic area.
Sure. It's not exactly realtime, but it's still cooler than not seeing anything at all :p.
There's always FlightExplorer.com if you wanna pay the big bucks for real time. CNN uses it for Air Travel reports on their fancy 150 foot screens.

The FlightAware FAQ contains this item...

How live is FlightAware's tracking and status data? (Back To Top) The data displayed on FlightAware is typically six minutes delayed from real time.

Last month when my wife was traveling, I was tracking her flight via flightaware. She called me when she de-planed and flightaware still showed her inflight with a 7 min ETA for arrival. I've found it varies depending on the time of day, it could be 6 mins or up to 10.

From my watching around here it's always averaged 10 or less... Might be time-of-day / location related too...

FlightAware has a usual delay of 12 minutes here in Las Vegas. FBOWeb seems to be about 5 minutes in delay on tracking, but on "live" monitor at certain airports, as soon as the aircraft is high enough for the radar to pick it up...it shows up.

The auto refresh takes place about every 2 minutes. I find the Flightaware's weather radar to be more timely and precise than either NOAA or our local TV station's display.

Just a perception issue... It is WAY behind a TV station's live radar, and a little bit behind the NWS radar as well.
