Morning folks,

I took over our communications team for our Search & Rescue Taskforce from a previous specialist in that capacity.

Our radios have the following channels programmed into them. I'm waiting to get a new programming cable to read the frequencies. But the channels are labeled: UCALL 40, UTAC 41, UTAC 42, UTAC 43, and MED 8. (with each channel having a Direct-Channel as well as through Repeater capability).

I'm working on increasing my knowledge in radio communications since as of right now, I'm mostly just I.T., and not Comms.

Is there any documentation (tried googling) on these channels, their uses, and overall technical specifications. We currently use these channels in any deployment we have and are working on getting our repeater up and running to support these frequencies as well.

And I also want to say Thank you to the RR community. The knowledge floating around here is amazing, and its helped me jump into a new capacity on this team in which I had little knowledge, but keep things moving forward in a time of need. You guys are awesome.

The frequencies that you're referring to are known as Interoperability channels are nationwide. Try googling "Florida Interoperability radio" and that should give results. I'm sure it here in the RR Wiki too but I didn't find it. Hope this helps... :). 73, n9zas

gewecke, Thanks for the input. I was looking for something in the wiki earlier before posting and I saw some about the frequencies, but not really about application, usage, and other broad documentation on it other than the numbers. :)

K5BBC, that was exactly what I was looking for. That's fantastic! Thank you! :D

K239,

Please pay special attention to the legal stuff in the NIFOG document. You have to meet specific requirements to use most of the frequencies in the book. Just because they are programmed in your radio does not give you authorization to use them.

Most of those channels are used day to day for public safety operations. Wouldn't be a great idea (and may be illegal) for your team to use them, unless you meet several requirements.

If you have any questions, or a specific use case, let us know.

Being your in Lee County, and I just finished redoing a North Florida EMS service, THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO READ. Wiki and other stuff is okay, but your department will work under the state. Go to this site and read up on it. It will help you out (being your more IT and somewhat RF).

Radio Communications Plans / Radio Communications Services / Telecommunications / Business Operations / Florida Department of Management Services - DMS

If you have any questions, feel free to look me up or call my work. I service Central and North Florida, but I have had to make service runs to Charlotte and Lee.

Also, glad you guys made it through Sunday Morning (1-17-16) those where some Kick BUTT storms.

They were north of us, but we were on call for mutual aid all through the night. I probably got about 40 minutes of actual sleep. But I digress...

I appreciate the info as well. Together with the last article from K5BBC, I think I've got enough to read up on for now. It looks like that's all the information I need to know for the moment. Now just to get the hang of our actual hardware.

Your doing the right thing, asking questions. Can't be blamed for that.
Keep asking.

Those of you working with government agencies can also order extra copies. I recently ordered 20 of them to distribute to certain supervisors and to keep in the mobile command post.

Most of our appropriate radios are already programmed with the frequencies
