It appears the patch linking DOC, VSP, and Henrico may have been removed.

The reason for this observation is that I can actually hear DOC Ops Central (TG 2206) through the Petersburg Tower (no more squeaks and tones).

DOC is asking for a bloodhound at the intersection of Roxbury and Wayside in Charles City County. They had a report of something (????) at a house near there. However, it is not clear exactly where the house is located.

He's got a car!

VSP just gave out a broadcast that the suspect was seen in a white 2002 door Ford Focus bearing VA TAG JER5245. He was in the car with the owner...but let her out. He was seen 30 minutes ago and still may be in the Charles City County area. Of course they added "armed and dangerous". Sounds like he's mobile. This transmission was heard on TG 3 through the Petersburg tower.

Vehicle found- but empty

VSP just reported the vehicle was located without anyone in it. Heard on TG 3 through Petersburg tower. I did not hear where it was found.

They are relocating some trooper to the intersection of Rt 5 and Carters Mill Rd. The "HEAT" command post is now there. I caught part of a transmission indicating the car may have been found on Carter's Mill Rd....but I'm not certain.

Caught part of a conversation on TG 13 this morning at 0730 indication that the individual did not believe the information about the stolen 2002 Ford Focus. This is consistent with the report in the Richmond Time Dispatch's web-page:

"Cunningham declined comment on a report from WTVR that a Charles City County woman was abducted in her car by a man matching Logan's description last night and then forced to drive him to Williamsburg. The television station reported that the woman then drove to Richmond and left the vehicle on East Grace St.

Williamsburg and James City County police departments said this morning that they have not been specifically notified that Logan may be in their area.

A State Police bulletin issued at 8:45 p.m. Monday night alerted law enforcement agencies that Logan had been possibly seen in Charles City County in a 2002 Ford Focus."

Comment: Doesn't sound like the VSP put any creditability to the woman's allegation if they did not notify Williamsburg or James City County.

I was listening to JC/YC/Wmbg at the same time the initial broadcast for the Ford Focus, and the later the recovery, was given out. I did not hear any "BOL" for the vehicle or Logan in the Williamsburg area.

WRVA news in Richmond reported:
"For the past couple of days, police have been concentrating their search efforts near the Henrico/Charles City County line, but someone called police just after midnight Tuesday morning to say they saw someone matching Logan's description in East Richmond off Government Road. Sergeant Tom Cunningham says that police immediately began looking in that area. He says that one Richmond police officer saw the person who may be Logan, but the person ran into a wooded area."

In regards to the location in East Richmond, I reviewed my recordings of STARS from early this morning and found a reference to the following geo-coordinates: N 37 31 16.2 and W 77 23 56.0.

This location is on Accomac St appx 50 feet west of the intersection of Bunn St and Accomac St. There are woods to the south of this location...and in the general area.

Sounds like he may have been seen in the area of 36th St and Marshall in Richmond. There are a bunch of VSP, DOC and Richmond Police in the area. Received on TG 1 via Petersburg STAR tower.

Since I cannot pick up the Richmond Police system from Williamsburg, if anyone is in Richmond listening, please update.

Sounds like he may be in the Richmond area.

I have not hear much on the radio.

Here's a good summary from WTVR's web-page:

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 Update 1:03pm:

Chimborazo Elementary School in the 3000 block of East Marshall in Richmond, was placed on lockdown while police searched outside the school for Alonzo Logan. The lockdown did not last long and was lifted as police wrapped up their search in that area.

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 Update 12:05pm:

Police are busy searching a dead end on East Marshall street off East Broad.

They've got helicopters overhead and K9 units on the ground, searching a swampy area. Officers are also going door to door asking neighbors if they've seen escaped inmate Alonzo Logan.

The 41-year old was allegedly seen last night several miles away in Eastern Henrico.

Reports came in around 12:30am from residents of the Woodcroft Apartments saying Logan was knocking on apartments in the complex, asking for clothes and money.

Monday, Nov. 26, 2007

Around 11:00pm, Richmond Police Lt. Jack King tells CBS 6 that a woman from Charles City County was confronted in her home by Logan. She says she was forced to drive Logan to Williamsburg, dropped him off and then returned back to Richmond before alerting police.

CBS 6 was the first to alert viewers that police had found the woman's car in the city's Church Hill neighborhood.

Officers from the city of Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield and the Virginia State Police surrounded a section of woods in eastern Richmond, where they believe Logan may be hiding.

A $5,000 reward is now being offered by the state's Department of Corrections. Logan is about 5'9, 180 pounds.

Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007

The search for Alonzo Logan is scaled back. Only a handful of officers remain in the woods near the Henrico/Charles City line.

From Richmond Time Dispatch:

"Officials are now convinced that the man spotted in a Fulton Bottom neighborhood early this morning is escaped convicted Alonzo Logan.

Richmond Police Chief Rodney Monroe said Logan apparently returned to the block of Jennie Scher Road where his brother, Jamie, once lived and began knocking on doors around 1 a.m.

Officials now believe the man was Logan because he asked for his brother by name when he knocked on the doors.

After Logan knocked on the door of the home where his brother used to live, the current resident contacted police. The resident explained what happened and said the man could be seen changing clothes and then ducking into woods nearby."

Now that's just scary... looks like we need to add "criminal background check of relatives of all previous owners, residents and neighbors" to a title search when buying a house!

Makes me glad to be the original resident of my house, but I've had some fairly shady neighbors over the years!

Ever heard of the old saying "Like a dog with a bone?" Well, the Virginia State Police fall into that category. I'm really impressed!

On TG 3 on the Petersburg Tower, I'm listening to troopers mark on duty to go to the "Special Assignment" in Charles City County. They don't give up.

Even after the suspect was seen in Richmond, the VSP are covering all the bases.

It's just good police work. Every citizen of Virginia should be proud, and thankful, of their efforts.

Richmond PD now has some "special ops" on Regionwide 3. Richmond even has a dispatcher dedicated to this channel. Just a minute ago I heard RPD unit 21 (1st precint commander) calling VSP for a radio check. What's interesting is that Regionwide 3 is currently patched to talkgroup 17480, which is unidentified in the database. Any guesses?

17040 is up as well on the Rich/Hen/Cfield system, which I've posted about before. Fairly certain it's a patch to VSP of some sort, and they are talking about the "incident".

I have two daughters living in the Church Hill area. They said the police were going door to door tonight. The police were met at the door by my daughter's two large dogs....they asked if my daughter's felt safe....as they were backing up from the door as the dogs were trying to get at them. If the suspect came into the house, the kids could collect the reward....if there was anything left to identify. Glad to see RPD checking on everyone.

I'm hearing traffic talking about search teams on ITAC4 (867.5125 PL 156.7) in downtown Richmond loud and clear...I'm assuming its related to this event, just wanted to pass it along to people on here.

Edit:

hangtime on this repeater is very long, that or someone keeps keying their microphone over and over again. anybody else hearing this?

For some reason its not letting me edit the post above, callsigns "Region 1 Command" and "Team 1" heard.

"Team 1, we have completed our objective, with negative results"
"Region 1 Command, roger"

I wonder if this patch is set up because if SIRS's not-so-great propagation characteristics in the city environment, I would assume all of the Richmond TRS's radios had the ITAC/ICALL stuff programmed in there...but I've only heard what sounds like simulcasted P-25 stuff...patch to Richmond's 17040 and/or STARS?

edit:

it sort of sounds like the ITAC traffic is re-transmitted P-25 audio. I don't have STARS in my Pro-96 and I'm using it to listen to the Richmond TRS with my FT-60R on 867.5125, so I can't double-check that.

another edit:

This is definitely a patch of some kind, what I thought was "Region 1 Command" is now sounding more like "Central Region Command" or "Central Region 1 Command". Anybody hearing traffic like this on STARS? I'm not hearing anything on the Richmond TRS about it, and I'm pretty sure its STARS, considering I'm hearing various VSP callsigns on it.

I'm hearing State Police Unit xxx traffic on ITAC4 now as well.

Thanks...I'm not hearing much on STARS about the search. I cannot pick up the Richmond/Henrico system from Williamsburg.
