When Sand Springs FD was fighting their fire I heard them say they were talking to to Forestry and their units. Were they talking about the state forestry or national forestry? Does anyone have any frequencies for the Forestry? Are they the same as the ones listed under State Forestry? Thanks...

forestry

I know my department has worked some with a group of guys based out of Pawhuska That are affliated with the BIA and national Forestry dept. The way they explained it was they were seasonally employed by the Federal Govt and were on call certain months of the year to respond to major fires anywhere in the lower 48 states.

I don't know if thats who they (Sandsprings) may be refering to or not; but I know those guy run all around Osage County in their brush rig helping local dept with grass fires.

I tired to find out there freqs. awhile back and wasn't able to find anything: RR or otherwise. I did recognise they had a VHF radio/antennea onboard there truck, though.

Hey Phil, I met the BIA guys Saturday night, they were on the way up toward your area. They gave me thier frequency but i'll have to call out to the station to get it. And yes BIA was who Sand Springs was talking to Sunday night. They said it's the busiest they've ever been out here. One of the crew members had been flow in from Phoniex, Arizona to help out.

Those BIA guys are a real help, and always show up right when we need 'em most! I wouldn't mind having that Ford F-250 they work off of! I also saw another one of their trucks heading into Tulsa on highway 51 last week; It looked like a F-150 pickup with no fire equipment on it; just a lightbar. I wonder if that is some kind of "Chiefs Truck"?

yeah they are. they showed up again today to help us out between Prue and Morgans Corner. once we got it under control, there was this huge pile of Cow pies still burning, and they jumped right in it tearing it apart. They mean business!

They ended up down in my area too. They aren't exactly driving around looking for fires though. They are being directed by aerial spotters. Much more effective.

We met up with them again today: We were walking the fire line and then all the sudden heard a chainsaw start up....then another.... I was begining to wonder who it was, then saw there was aprox 20 'hot shots' clearing a fire break! Those guy are a really big help, and can really put us 'hose-monkeys' to shame!

I asked one of their guys with a radio if he knew the freq they operate on.... he was being really evasive and all I could get out of him was that the BIA has a repeater in Southern Osage Co they use.

Last week forestry & BIA were using 168.300 RP & simplex in Osage & Washington County. Some trucks were from Minnesota and went home last Friday.

The following information is from an old BIA Frequency Directory dated 1993.

Oklahoma

Brushy Mountain KKC581 168.3000
Khilocco KIE530 163.0250, 168.3000
Kiamichi Mountain KKE571 168.3000
Talequah KKF580 167.150, 168.300, 169.775
Talihina KKF570 168.3000

Those are the only listings for the BIA that matches 168.3000 in Oklahoma.

I will post others if found.
