Ron Uthmann Worked For Poudre Valley Fire Authority
UPDATED: 9:27 am MDT May 23, 2006
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A former division fire chief in Larimer County faces charges related to child porn following his arrest Monday.
Ron Uthmann was taken into custody by Grand Junction authorities after an arrest warrant was issued in Larimer County.
Uthmann was booked on two counts of sexual exploitation of children, a class 3 felony, and one count of sexual exploitation of children, a class 1 misdemeanor. A felony is charged when an individual, among other things, distributes child pornography. The misdemeanor is charged when the material is possessed.
Uthmann's bail was set at $25,000.
The Larimer County investigation began in early 2006, based on information from informants who believed they had seen pornographic images on computers assigned to Uthmann while he was employed as division chief of the Poudre Valley Fire Authority. He was also previously employed as the emergency manager for the City of Fort Collins.
During the investigation Uthmann's computers were seized and a forensic analysis was conducted over the last few months, according to a statement from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office and the PVFA.
Investigators said they believe that Uthmann received and exchanged images containing child pornography on his work computers. Investigators said they believe that Uthmann was not involved in any other crimes related to children, however.
Poudre Fire Authority Chief John Mulligan and Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden scheduled a news conference for Tuesday afternoon to discuss the case.
