[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] LOWELL, Mass. - Jan. 14, 2008 - Tyco Electronics announced today that its M/A-COM business, a worldwide leader of critical radio communications systems, has been awarded a $7.6 million contract by the U.S. Army to deploy its Project 25IP (P25 to the power of IP) trunked radio communications system at Fort Hood, Texas. Fort Hood is the home base of the US Army's 1st Cavalry Division and the 4th Infantry Division. The new trunked system will be a four-site, 49-channel system on the 380-400 Mhz band and will support more than 2,100 users over the 395 square miles occupied by the U.S. Army facility.

"We are extremely pleased to continue to support U.S. Army bases around the country with their critical communications needs," said Chris Fauser, regional sales manager, Tyco Electronics. "All of us here at Tyco Electronics fully understand the distinctive needs of Army personnel and the first responders located at these facilities, and we are proud to work with Fort Hood to address those needs and exceed the high expectations of this historic facility."

The P25IP communications system at Fort Hood features Information Assurance and OTAP (Over-the-Air Programming) capabilities for secure communications and easy configuration. This communication system also includes a HA-NSS (High Availability Network Switching Server) to ensure that voice and data messages are delivered only to the radio sites that are necessary to reach the destined mobile subscribers.

The M/A-COM P25IP radio system meets the National Telecommunications and Information Administration's (NTIA) narrowband mandate and also satisfies the Department of Defense policy for P25 compliance. The M/A-COM digital P25IP radio communication system combines the benefits of an IP-based network-centric solution with the standard common air interface of P25. Additionally, P25IP provides interoperable communications via NetworkFirst, the M/A-COM network solution that interconnects existing radio communications systems for interoperability based on routine and emergency needs.

The M/A-COM P25IP communications system is part of the M/A-COM VIDA (Voice Interoperability Data Access) network, which is deployed at a number of sites around the country. The M/A-COM VIDA network platform is a cost-effective, IP-based interoperable radio communications technology that supports P25 and other IP-based systems. It provides a full IP management platform including interoperability without intervention of console operators, IP consoles, networking technology for both the P25 phase I and P25 phase II standards, plus many other benefits inherent in open IP architecture systems.
