palintar,

Since I'm not from GA, and the Fort is not listed in the link above for the Trunked Radio Database I am going to assume that:

a) they dont have a trunked system .. or
b) nobody is actually tracking and posting what they find

Attached is a list of standard gov freqs for you to scan. See if you can find a control channel. Be sure to submit what you find .. :)

Also, tapping the discriminator on the pro-95 is cake. Once you do that running Trunker, eTrunker or T4Win opens up a whole new window on trunked systems.

Fort Stewart Trunk frequencies

I am pretty sure there running in the 800 mhz range.. I asked my neighbor who is an MP. However he doesn't know anything more that that. He did ask me would it help if he brought one of his handhelds home. I think there using smart zone. Can my pro-95 pick up smart zone?

thanks for your reply.

roger.

Smartzone is a moto system. What you need to do is use the 'scan range' function on the 95 and key in a wide range to search. Take the time to train your ear to learn what each vendors control channel sounds like.

If it is a moto system .. discrimin tapping your 95 so you can run trunker will make your job easier to listen to the system. Because Trunker or T4Win decodes what the voice freqs for you. If it ends up being an EDACS .. welp .. that is another story.

Stand by while I dig up an audio link for Moto and EDACS.

Audio

Thanks

I hear those sounds on several frequencies to include 810.05625 up through 929.36250, any suggestions on how to decode them?

Thanks..

I am a newby, so feel like I am asking dumb questions.

Sincerely

David

dumb questions .. naww. Anytime someone displays some intelligence as opposed to wanting to be babysitted .. those questions arent dumb. :)

I be able to decode those control channels that you have been listening to .. you will need to tap what is called the discriminator on your pro-95. After that is done .. the easy way to decode is to pipe the output to your computers sound card and run T4Win.

umm ... you will need to buy some electronic componets and use a soldering iron. Is that too much to handle? :)

Lindsay .. has this installation asked to be removed from the TRD?

If he just wants to hear the communications on the system, then the Pro-95 can trunk with just the control channel on a Motorola system. Of course, he'll have to look around for the control channel again if it changes periodically (until he finds them all and programs them in). Just change the mode of the bank(s) to MOT and keep one trunked system per bank. It might take a little trial and error, but it's not as much trouble as the discriminator tap.

Good news " I think"

Was scanning for the Frequency Noise you sent me "MOT" and found a freq with it 858.78750. The MOT was CNTRL and VC
858.77500 with and MOT of 08172. Still not recieving any voice.
Any info on what to do?

Thanks

It sounds like you are only changing the mode for that frequency. You'll need to change the mode for the whole bank though. Assuming this is a Type II system, it's pretty easy to do. Press PGM and then TRUNK. Use FUNC and the up/down keys to select the bank you want to change. Once you get to the bank you want, hit mode until it shows MOT. It should work after that.

If it's a Type I system, then you'll need to figure out the fleet map. You can find more specific instructions on all of this on Page 60 in the manual.

Thanks.. I did that and even went today and bought me an outside antenna. Works great... Still not able to decode the freq's I have been tracking. Seems no one at the 2 local radio shack stores know anything about trunking. I guess they just hire off the street with no electronics training?

Can you walk me through it once and get me started. I am pretty sure I have all the MOT group ID's but still dont here voice even though it says VC freq on the screen as well.

Any help will get me further along.

Thanks in Advance

Sincerely

Update

Got some of my trunked freq's working Very Clear.. Recieving quite nice..

Question, is the 400 mhz range always ED or can it be both Ed or MOT, was wondering if it does any good to switch?

thanks

You don't see MOT in that range as often, but it is used in the 400 MHz range in a few places. LTR is also pretty common in that range. The Pro-95 doesn't do LTR though. It also doesn't do much with just the control channel for EDACS so changing the mode won't do anything.

If you want more info about the frequencies you are finding, you have several options. You can do a search on the internet for websites with frequencies from your area. You can tap your discriminator and use programs such as Trunker or T4WIN, like crayon mentioned. Or you could take note of the frequencies you have found and check them against the database on the FCC site:

http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/reports/index.cfm

That site isn't exactly perfect, but it's better than nothing.

Digital Trunking

Courious, does the Pro-95 track digital signals?? if not its going by by today? Bought it to track the Post traffic, if it wont pick it up, dont need it. Does anyone reccommend a Digital Trunk Tracker

Thanks

RE: Digital Trunking

The Pro-95 does not do digital. There's only two choices for digital right now and that's the Uniden BC785D and it's portable equivalent, BC250D (both also require a digital card). However, they don't do all digital so don't rush off to buy one before you find out if they'll work for you. Also, the Pro-96 should be available in a few months. It provides a few more options over the two Uniden scanners, but still doesn't cover everything. One other thing, if the Post traffic is encrypted, you won't find any scanner anytime soon capable of following it.

Motorola

WEll bad news.. found out my quest for scanning the local MP's is squashed for now. Got my hands on one of there "Motorola XTS3000-R" APCO ASTRO 25 Network/Project 25 Handhelds.. Really nice radio, totally digital. To bad the Pro 95 wont touch it.

Guess will wait until something comes out that will..

Thanks to everyone for there great info on scanning.
Decided to keep the Pro-95 anyway its alot of fun.

Sincerely

David

Unfortunately Joe, your PRO 95 isn't going to enable you to listen to the Fort Stewart MPs. They are on a 400mhz P25 trunking system. Your PRO 95 will track the system, but it won't decode the P25. Check out the Liberty County section of the Radio Reference database for frequencies and talkgroup information. The system is 3600 baud and unencrypted, so any P25 equipped scanner can track and decode it.
