Lets just say that EMSA's response times to calls have been even worse today than the recent news articles. Calls holding 2+ hours with no ambulance. Unacceptable.
Sorry to hear about these problems everybody. We're getting hammered real good in Pennsylvania north of Philly and I know the Buffalo area I have a friend who says they also are getting hammered this winter.
Definitely hurting the virus vaccinations, people can't make the appointments. I'm scheduled for Sunday and we're expecting early morning ice storm and I have to travel into Center City Philadelphia. Our ambulances here for ALS calls are accompanied by a fire truck whenever possible. They help dig the house out so EMS can get in.
Who is the operations contractor for EMSA these days? It's one of the last remaining public utility model EMS systems and there is a contract between the trust and contractor. Assuming it hasn't been watered down to the point of irrelevance, that contract specifies response time maximums. OU's Jack Stout had all this figured out 40 years ago but it never caught on (OKC/Tulsa, KC, and Little Rock are the only Public Utility Model EMS systems I've ever heard of).
The rule in EMS these days seems to be show up whenever, claim a 90% survival rate, and move on.
EMSA operates under its own entity now. No contractor. The city trust is still alive. Response times are no where close to being met either way. Staffing is the biggest issue due to many reasons. The news claims covid..not the case.
EMSA is a freaking joke! I don't know how many times I have listened to just TFD in the last month and EMSA is either putting calls on hold or passing their calls off mutual to another EMS service in the area. I know the Covid calls are killing their response time but it's also being understaffed, overworked, and underpaid staff. I really hope when the 5 year contract expires that they really take TFD into consideration of running EMS in the Tulsa metro. TFD is usually first on scene and always waiting on EMSA no matter whether it's Priority 1 or not. I don't need some corporate bean counter to tell me otherwise. Listen to TFD for a few hours a week and the evidence is right there.
