Hi,

I just received Yaesu dt-70d and trying to connect to a repeater. My question is that all the repeater seem have 4 digits after the decimal based on Repeaterbook.com

But my Yaesu only has 3. Am I doing something wrong? thanks

Hi @baysidefish and welcome to Radio Reference! If you look on Page 6 at the top right, you will also see how after the third decimal place in the display there are the three numbers of 25, 50 and 75. That allows for the entered frequency to be 146.12325 MHz for example.

okay, here is I have tried so far, but no luck

446.3875 -5 MHz 114.8 FM Fusion

1. Turn on radio, enter my call sign

2. Mode --> DN

3. Enter 446.387 (small 50 shows up)

4. F --> 5, chnage to TONE

5. set 114.8

When press PTT, I can see the frequency chnages to 441.387 (50). I thought this is done and should received a "beep" or something. But, nothing.

I thought it was because the interferences around where I live, I even went to a block away from the location of the repeater (lol), still nothing.

Any ideas? thanks

huh...who is Gary? (sorry)

I think (from my limited) knowledge, I think that repeater is not available now because I can connect to different repeater......another question, what does it mean when the tone reads " D516 / D516 " ? how do I set it in tone? thank you

Gary is kb2nyc owner of that repeater.

D516 should be Digital Coded Squelch tone. Look at your manual and see how to change access mode and tone. I do not have a FT-70 so not sure of the steps.

K62NYC may be operating a Fusion repeater, but it is not registered with Yaesu as a Wires-X node. Clearly it is not in coordination either because it is not following any band plan. Fusion repeaters in the "auto" mode can use PL or DCS on the input or output or both in the FM mode. Fusion (C4FM) does not use PL or DCS. In general the 2m and 70cm band plans would use 15KHz or 20KHz channel spacing. Therefore, there would be no 4th digit.

Do you here anything on the output? Maybe the repeater is off the air.

In any case operating on a simplex frequency is very bad practice.

I am not sure if that repeater is off or not. Maybe it is not for Yaesu. Anyway, thanks for everyone's patience, I just got my license on 1/15/2021. lol

Another question, how do I know if I have connected to a repeater. I only know is because the "light" is blinking (someone is talking).. if that repeater has no traffic, how do I know I am connected? thank you

All the repeaters I have ever used (only a few mind you ) have a courtesy tone). Easy way to tell is key your radio and announce your call sign. When TX drops to RX listen for the tone. Do not be rude and just key radio without saying anything like a lot of people do. Or use second rx to monitor the repeater output freq and see if you hear yourself.

If no tone is heard or used on that particular repeater listen for a carrier tail after you stop txing you may be able to hear it if noise level not to bad.
