There doesn't seem to be a user manual for the software, which is unfortunate because there are a lot of options that aren't explained. My current question: You can turn Auto Mode on and you can turn Auto Mode Selection (AMS) on. Why are there two auto modes? What's the difference?
Auto Mode is your AM/FM
AMS switches between Analog and Digital

Memory banks

Is anyone having a problems accessing the memory banks? Since I did the MARS/CAP MOD several weeks ago.. It seems that I can no longer access the memory banks.

I press & hold the V/M button and the "F" flashes.. I scan scroll through my saves banks titles b1, b2, b3 etc.. but, I can't do anything else.. I can access them to scan the individual channels I've saved in the banks..

The banks worked prior to the MOD.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,

Steve

Could be better but not bad.....

I finally got the radio and have spent a few hours with it. Here are my first impressions.

Likes:

Wideband RX
The RX audio is outstanding on all bands.
The build is great and it feels good in my large hands.
Sensitivity is very good even in the AM aircraft band.
Radio is nice and light weight.
Heavy duty solid belt clip.
Nicely lit screen and keys.
Easy access to the menu items without having to use a PC
Large memory capacity.

Dislikes:

ADMS free software is a crappy.
No 7.5 kHz tuning steps for VHF narrowband.( Yes for UHF but no for VHF?)
RF squelch almost useless until after about S-6
No light on/off switch option. Either off or you have to choose seconds
The procedure to upload/download your codeplug is a pain in the rear.

Overall this radio is a keeper. Just have to be willing to deal with a few shortcomings. ( It's not a scanner )
Im happy with the purchase.

Manny

There is a selection for "continuous" for the back-light using the ADMS software.

A comment about ADMS vs RT Systems vs Chirp:

They all work. RT Systems is the best. I already had the cable and just downloaded the software.

The ADMS and Chirp programs seem to have a problem programming memory banks. You can enter all the info, bank links and bank names, but the FT70 will not access them. When programmed with RT Systems everything worked fine. I even reloaded the firmware, but no change. If you want to use banks, you may need to spend the money for RT. Maybe someone else has had a different experience?

Regarding C4FM:

I operate a Fusion node and am the trustee of a Fusion repeater. The FT70's audio is a bit hot on Fusion. The mic gain need to be backed off. This is an observation from hearing numerous FT70's on Fusion rooms like MNWIS. Unfortunately Yaesu did not provide separate mic gain setting for digital and analog.

See my comments above. My radio is not modified, but I had the same problem. I was able to solve it by using the RT Systems software. Neither ADMS nor Chirp could program banks.
