I think you're talking about putting a DC plug on the end of your radio's power wire that goes into a cigarette lighter outlet correct? I realize that the new term is "DC Accesory Port" but we're talking about the same thing right?

I used to run my Icom 2100 on a cigarette lighter plug, but kept the power on mid (10watts) to minimize the current load. Worked just fine.

The radio will come with a power cable with stripped ends, radio shack has a 12v plug that takes the stripped ends that lets you "push in" the ends while and away you go.

Ditto on lower power, and you might have some RF whine on transmit as well, 12v ports are never as good as a propertly run power cable (yet I've used them as well:D )

Here is the easy way to adapt the power cable.....
