FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State Patrol says one person was killed when a car plunged off a bridge Saturday afternoon.

It happened about 4:07 p.m. on I-25 at E. Mulberry Street.

Troopers at the scene said a Dodge Ram and a Buick were both travelling north on I-25.

The State Patrol says the driver of the Buick, a 62-year-old man from Plentywood, Montana, sideswiped the Dodge Ram.

Troopers at the scene said the driver of the Buick lost control, vaulted over a guardrail, rolled down an embankment and ended up on railroad tracks, where it caught on fire.

The State Patrol says the driver was ejected before the vehicle caught fire but died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 19-year-old driver from Lafayette, California, was not hurt.

The northbound lanes of I-25 were closed for about two hours Saturday afternoon because of the accident.

When asked about charges, the State Patrol says the investigation is still in the preliminary stages.
