Off-topic, but I wanted to mention that local contractors removed three 500-foot towers that formerly were at the transmitter site for AM 1000, WMVP-AM, formerly WCFL-AM, formerly located on 39th Street in unincorporated Downers Grove Township. I went to school with several kids who lived right in the neighborhood of the towers, and they heard the radio station on most of their telephones. A few of them also heard the radio station when they flushed their toilets, and at times when wet dishes were stacked on the counter, waiting to be dried. I'm sure that there are other interesting stories of unwanted RF overload in their homes.

If your appliance says something on the order of, "botnet #321." Then it might be a good idea to take the toaster off the stupid Wi-Fi... :D

Honestly, all this smart home crap and for what? Do I need the ability to monitor my dryer while on vacation (holiday) at some all inclusive resort?! LOL! Even coffeepots are now "smart." Smart alright, they can become a part of a massive botnet DDoS since the manufacturers don't care about signing certificates and other security measures. This is in part why I VLAN all the IoT crap in OPNsense.

Years ago there was a high powered AM tower near me. It could be heard thru speakers, phones etc,, later on the years it was reduced power and now it doesn't happen anymore but there were times if the TV was off, you'd hear very faint talking going on thru various things throught the house if you got close enough. Yes it was really weird until it was found out what it was

I swear sometimes at night while looking for a snack I hear my fridge faintly and judgmentally whisper "Go to sleep, fatty" after I close the door.

Ummm... what?

Lol.

So they were hearing audio from vibrations in the water? For real?

Reminds me of the fake story Lucille Ball told Johnny Carson about her transistor radio tooth. I saw that episode on YouTube. Was interesting. I mean, interesting BS.

And the reason I ask that is because:

Dang near 40 years ago when I was young, dumb, and full of ignoration, my ex would tell me, very specifically, to "go put the food on the stove away".

So I did.

It took her a bit of time to figure out why there were never any leftovers for tomorrow.

I had to respond to Broadcast rf complaints over the years from folks living close to transmitter sites. Pretty much trial and error. Usually cheap electronic phones were vulnerable. Sometimes I could tune another station on the device...... ok lady, that's no longer my problem. I know the CE and can give you his number.

Some 35 years or so ago I lived in an apartment that was served (at the time) by a non-Bell operating company. This meant that our telephone service was not as well protected from outside interference. When it rained we would hear WJJD-AM in our phones. The tower was a mile or so away at the time, pumping out 50,000 daytime watts of that sweet country music.

On particularly soggy days we could hear the radio station coming thru the stereo speakers when the receiver was off but the amp was on. A neighbor said she could hear it in her dental work but she was kind of nuts so I suspect she was hearing voices other than Patsy or Loretta.

We have a thread about funny/odd things heard on you scanner, so I thought I'd start one about things you've heard on your appliance(s).

My appliances never say anything, so I have no experience to post about.
Not really my appliance but related. I once drove by a government radio site with no radios one but my car windows were down and copied cw arcing on an HF antenna insulator.
