Hey guys. Just wanted to stop in and say hi, since ill be joining you all in a couple months. It actually all started about a week ago (well, ive been in to scanners for YEARS) when i picked up a pair of UHF Motorola JT1000s on ebay. I originally wanted just one for the purpose of having an extremely good receiver for my local police department and county rural fire departments. I found a sweet deal one one, and the seller said he had several more, so i figured what the heck, so i got a sweet deal on 2. I was thinking what the heck, use them on FRS/GMRS frequencies when out camping or something. Well, i got the feeling that when i get these radios, ill want to do more then just transmit on frs/gmrs frequencies. So i started glancing around on this site, and saw that hamtestonline.com was a good place to start. So 3 days ago, i purchased the technician class subscription to that website, and completed it today. At this point, im getting nothing but 90% and over on every practice exam i can find on the internet. (im sure the 2 electronics/electrical classes i took in automotive school helped a little) So since the next test in my area is march 26th, im thinking i have enough time; i should purchase the general class subscription from hamtestonline and start working on that. Is that what you would do? If not, why? (wondering if i may be moving too fast?)

You definitely have enough time to study for both by then. I took my Tech/General in one sitting and then a few weeks later came back and took my Extra. Used HTO for all my studying.

I did that. I went through the Technician Class course on HTO. My brother was doing the same but was taking a bit longer, so I went ahead and purchased the General Class course too. I was able to pass both with 100% scores. If I had more time, I would have gone ahead with the Extra Class course too.

If you're scoring no less than 90% on your practice exams, you'll be fine.

Good luck!

You should be fine as long as you have a good understanding of the material you are learning for the Tech test before starting on the General material. Good luck, and welcome to amateur radio!
