• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all. I have the g5 uhf/700-800. Do the 800mhz trunking systems (even on alert page) drain the battery faster? This battery i just got a month ago but it says week 09 of 2025 on the label. I got it new from my dealer. I have screen time out for 10 seconds. Bad battery? Or normal?

How fast? I know I need a new battery in mine as it’s almost 2 years old and normally I’ll get about 3/4 of a day monitoring a busy 800 system. Grab it from the charger around 6-7am then need to charge it for an hour around 3-4pm battery at 1/4 then charge over night from around 11-12 to 5-6am. It just makes sense that the more traffic you hear the more it’s going to drain the battery. But like I said I know mines going bad so how is your new battery compared?

For trunking, it seems to go to 3bars within 30 mins on alert/page sometimes. But will definitely be full more longer on my uhf analog freqs either on scan or page(selective call).

Stop worrying about the bars and see how much life you actually get out of the thing. I get 8-10 hours here monitoring a really busy trunking system and longer some days on say Sunday when it's not as busy. Yes it drops that one bar fairly quickly, but I don't pay attention to that. The batteries are right at a year old in both my G5's.

hey no reason to be sorry, none whatsoever. It's a legitimate question and at first when I got my first one, I too wondered about that quick drop off on the first bar, but having come from ham radio where that often happens on HT's I was sort of used to it. I will say if I have one monitoring a regular scanning group of VHF, it lasts way longer it seems than the trunking one does. It was a valid question in my opinion I meant no disrespect in my answer.

Once a year replacement of the G series batteries are Unication remonnedtion. having said that , My G5 is experiencing the second year with life line of 8-10 hours a day. monitoring a single site with handfull of talk groups. The volume in the amp charger remains @ 25 percent and out of charger @ 60 percent . I do not use the tone nor the recording features.
