• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does anyone have any data on the battery life in various situations on the G1? I know it’s highly dependent on how you’ve got it set up, but just trying to get a general idea.

I’ve got mine set up with the screen turning off, Bluetooth off, LED timeout set to only 8 seconds. No MDC decode.

Yesterday I was doing a priority scan of 5 frequencies with a look-back to the priority channel of 1 sec and the battery was dead in 3 hours which might be normal, but hugely disappointing.

This is very short battery life. Are you using 1000mAh batteries? How old are the batteries?

Yes, they are the 1000mah batteries that came with the pager. And it’s brand new from Unication 3 weeks ago.

Maybe I’m a moron....I’ve been leaving it in the charging cradle as I play with different programming configurations and figured it was getting fully charged over night. Maybe it’s not? Gonna put it in the proper charging cradle and see if that’s the problem.

You mean you are leaving it in the programming cradle? The batteries will not charge all the way in the programming kit.

What you might want to do is pull the batteries from the unit and charge them independently in the G1 charger in the aux. battery location. This will bring each one up to full capacity. Then put the batteries in the G1, use it as normal, and then charge as normal.

I use the white eneloops from Amazon. I charge them in an external charger. I get 48 hours out of them in my G1. I haven't used the G1 charger in years. Best I could ever get using that was about 24 hours. If things are busy, ie, many calls, it may cut down battery life to around 36 - 40 hours. I use either a Lacrosse or Opus charger.

I get 48 hours out of my G1 for 6 months then it drops off a couple hours a week until I put new batteries in the G1.
Unication states you need to swap the batteries every 6 months.
G1 Voice Pager:
Replace G1 Batteries Every 6 Months

For optimal performance G1 Batteries should be replaced every 6 months.

Recommended Battery
Unication strongly recommends using Tenergy Premium 1000 mAh NiMH or PowerEx 1000 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries.

G1 Programming & Battery Life
Contact your dealer for additional programming tips to extend your battery life and performance.

Batteries & Cold Weather
As with any battery operated device, freezing temperatures of 30 degrees & below may impact the G1’s battery life. The following preventative measures are recommended to maximum battery performance in cold temperatures.

  • Ensure that batteries are fully charged prior to any extended exposure to freezing temperatures. Do not leave your G1 in exposed temperatures for long periods of time. It is recommended to keep on your person as body warmth helps to protect from cold conditions.
  • Replacing your G1 batteries every 6 months is strongly recommended. Replacing your G1 batteries before the start of the cold season will help to maximize battery life. For optimal performance, Unication recommends using at least 1000 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries.
*Please be advised that over tightening the battery door screws may cause the unit to not charge/program correctly. If unit does not sit securely in the cradle, please check the screws and loosen as needed.

Yep, that was my problem. The programming cradle *does* charge the pager, and I guess I figured my phone charges fully when plugged into my computer’s USB, why would the pager be any different. Turns out it’s *very* different.

Charged for a full 3 hours (till I got a green light) in the proper charging cradle. Going on 12 hours of priority scanning the same 6 frequencies from before and the battery indicator still shows full.
