• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What is everyone's thoughts on the G1? I currently have a Min 6 and I don't feel the reception is near as good as my V was. How does the G1 compare to the Min 6? I like that I can buy the software and programming cradle on line.

I use a VHF G1 as well as a VHF/7-800 G5 everyday. I think the G1 is superior to the Minitor series hands down. It has the same features the Minitor 6 does, but you gain an LCD display. Reception is great & so is the audio coming from the speaker. And, I'm not sure how much you've ever had to deal with Motorola or how much it can be a pain to have to send something to the Depot for repair, but I've found it 100 times easier to work with Unication. That and the fact that they listen to their customers & have one of their folks that participates here on the boards. They actually take their customers suggestions seriously.

Another thing the G1 will do on VHF is cover the entire VHF high band. The Minitors do not. During the summer when storms are an everyday thing my G1 is used as a weather warning radio/device, set up with the 1050Hz long tone for activation. I used a personal owned Minitor 5 for almost 8 years and then after using the G1 demo for 3 hours I've not picked up the Minitor 5 since.

The PPS may take a minute or two to learn your way around but other than that it's great. IMO the G1 is superior in every regard.

****EDIT - The PPS for the G1 is a free download from the Unication site, and the programming cradle is a good bit less than the cradle for a Minitor 6.****

I saw that one. I know it's minimal but I would like a black one.
