Mostly ratty HF conditions here last night and this morning during a G1 and now G2 storm ongoing. Some strange propagation last night when the G1 hit made it worth scanning through HF when it normally wouldn't work.
Had WWCR 4840 and WRMI 5850 playing when they just disappeared into static, no signal at all. Checked WTWW, zilch as well. Ran through a few presets, and a faint, but very clear, RNZ Pacific 11725 popped up. Really nice signal for about 30 minutes, then it gradually faded out like everything else.
At least we're coming into the "better VHF enhancement" season here, so there's still some DX to hunt during a geomagnetic storm. I did notice during the storm about a week ago that some of the TV subchannels would lose signal intermittently during the day. I wouldn't be surprised that VHF is affected during high Kp events, but I've never noticed any degradation there.
Does VHF-HI get affected as badly as other bands by geomagnetic storming? It's hard for me to tell right now because it's Sunday morning in rural North Texas, and nobody out here is doing anything but church. Normal amounts of rail and air traffic for a Sunday, but that's always slow compared to normal days.
