To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone!

I just picked up a brand new G3 with the latest firmware.. It has been quite a long time since I programmed a Unication pager. With the new PPS, where do I go to set up my scan options? I have 8 channels all analog, programmed how I like them on the same zone. I am not familiar yet with the new PPS unfortunately. Just looking to scan all 8 at this point, until I get more acquainted with this new PPS set up. Second, can I link 2 or more zones to be scanned?

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. Too bad I cannot have all 8 conventional channels assigned to 1 knob position.

You can under NORMAL SCAN receive mode, it will scan up to 16 conventional frequencies.

Update:

I have the pager set up the way I need it. I did not notice til now, that there is a big delay difference in the P25 received signals on the pager when the same signals come in on my APX8000. When both are stopped on the same P25 conventional channel, the APX comes in right away and the pager is like 2 seconds behind, causing an echo effect. I have this happening when I do the same test with the G3 and an XTS2500. Is there a setting to change this? The audio quality is good, it's just delayed. Obviously 2 different beasts here ( radio vs. pager ) but I was curious why this is happening.

As @wmlovell said, voice buffering. Go to the knob position (in tab E7) for each of the frequencies, NOT the knob position you have scan programmed, and look for the setting highlighted in yellow below, disable this if it is causing issues for you.

Try disabling voice buffering in the Zone settings.

Thank You both, that was in fact the problem. Now it is almost neck n neck with my APX. I have it set up the way I need it.
The only other house keeping matter is the background screen color. I want it to show that nice blue color when it receives on every channel. I went to the E6 tab and selected blue under both ALL and GROUP 1. I thought that was it. Nope. Still stops on any channel with the background color black. I'm sure I am missing something..

E-6 would be for TGs on a P25 or DMR conventional frequency, not for analog conventional frequencies.
  • The designated background color will be displayed according to Group ID Setting while receiving the Group Call.
I do not believe it is possible to set background color for analog frequencies.

Well, that explains that. LOL...That's fine, I just thought it would be a nice thing but no biggie.. With the newer PPS, can I still ad a custom image? I remember doing that a few years back when I had this pager, before I sold it....
