To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

G5 announcing Knob Position

I originally had this as "rebooting" but that's not the case, see below.

I have three separate G5s. Two "older" ones, and one brand new G5N model.
They all do this 2.02, the older ones I've tried reverting to 1.35, and I've rebuilt my CP from scratch.

Basically, what happens is randomly the G5 will call out what knob position I'm on, just like if I reached down and turned it, except I didn't.
It does this on a VHF frequency with two-tone paging mostly because that's what position my G5 is on. I don't leave it on the P25 positions very long.

I don't recall them doing this before the upgrade to 2.02, but they ran perfectly fine on 2.02 for months before this started happening.

All of the devices work perfectly fine otherwise, the only annoyance is once it did the announcement thing during a page and it stopped/cut off the audio.

Does anyone else see this? Anyone have any ideas of what might be causing it?
I'm having trouble believing it's hardware because it's happening on three separate devices, different FW, and rebuilt CP.

Don't really remember the exact steps, however there's a selection in PPS- Zone selection in which would disable that feature.

I've had mine do this on occasion but it seems like maybe I bumped it first or somehow moved it or dropped it (yes this has happened). It did it with 1.35 on it and now 2.02 on both my G5's although the one I use more seems to do it more. I've never pinned down the cause of it doing that, it's almost like I switched knob positions but, I did not.

Also you can stop the announcements in the PPS but as @blackbelter said I don't remember where that's at and I'm not home to look at the moment.

I don't want to disable the announcements, I know how to do that.
I feel a little better knowing someone else has seen the same problem though. It's not just me. :)

Yes I see it on both of my two. Never really figured out why it does it. Sometimes it does it when I put it in the amplified base too but not always.

Not sure what announcement you are speaking of, but when I first programmed my scanner, every time I turned it on it would say: Trunking Talk Group , Normal Scan. This was very annoying to me.
To turn it off go to: E7, 3rd line down under parameter, Voice prompt, click box under current settings and select none.
If this is not what the issue is, please disregard my post.
Again, thumbs up to RaleighGuy for teaching me about this previously.

This isn't the issue, but thanks for the reply.
I have custom Voice Prompts set up for knob positions.

For instance, I have a position that says "Fire Dispatch" when I switch there. After a while, it will randomly just say "Fire Dispatch" without me touching the pager at all.

I have seen this issue after the pager flashes the out of range alert and then re-connects to the system. The new firmware seems to have fixed the issue.

You know, I was curious if that might be part of the issue. The "Fire Dispatch" position it does it on, is VHF analog set up for two-tone alert.
It's possible it's getting just enough of a signal during a transmission with CTCSS (but not my tones), then loses it, then locks back on and fires off the voice alert.
