Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

G5 backlight stays on after alert in DBV2.02 firmware

Programming up some new G5 pagers and started getting complaints that the battery life is horrible. Noticed that the pagers were keeping the backlight on after a P25T alert until the reset side button is pressed. Users wearing the pager obviously didn't notice the screen on all day. My pager, which is a little older, does not exhibit this problem. Both pagers have been programmed with the same file which has a 10 sec backlight timeout set.

Programming software shows both are on v2.02 firmware but the DBV version is 1.41c on my older pager that works correctly, and v2.04 on the new pagers where the backlight stays on. I'm using PPS 0.4.0.41 to program both pagers.

Can I roll the new pagers back to v1.41c? Is this a known bug in 2.04? Anyone else seen this?

If you are using the exact same profile for all, a slight difference in model numbers may be causing you some grief since there is probably a physical hardware difference. I know it may sound silly, but try creating a new profile by letting PPS read from the device to get the actual model number and build from there. Since they are similar, the user data should transfer over to the new profile without issue. Double check all of the settings and then program the pager again with the corrected model number.

Thanks for the suggestion, although it didn't solve the issue. I downloaded a fresh copy of 0.4.0.41 PPS. Read out the file from the newer pager (G5N), saved the file, and programmed it back into the pager. No change, backlight stays on after an alert and the channel switches to revert mode. If I clear it with the side button, the backlight turns off after 10 seconds.

Newer models require 2.02 and beyond so probably that you will brick them if you move FW back to an earlier version. Not sure how you can tell if a unit needs 2.02+.

I believe these are the G5N pagers which used a different chip.

No need for a fresh copy. What I was suggesting is to create a separate profile for each device by letting PPS read from them and compare the difference. Even though they are essentially the same, the actual model number may be slightly different. If you look on PPS and search by condition, you'll see that there are 44 different model numbers for the G5, and 8 of them are just for the G5N alone.
