• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

When I turn on my G5 sometimes it SKIPS the bootup screen.....the screen that first appears with the red dots. Instead it starts, scanning for control channel then starts as normal...everything seems to be working fine....took it on the road to work and no problems. I reprogrammed radio, removed battery, then put back in. Could there be a setting in the PPS set wrong?

Firmware version: 2.02

Leave it turned off for a while and not on the charger. After a certain while, turn it back on. You'll have to sit there and wait for the obnoxious bootup screen while you're wanting listen right when there's sirens going by.

I have three G4s. Two of them act just like the ones in this thread. The other one never goes to the boot up screen unless it’s just been reprogrammed. They all have the same firmware V1.33-08182022 and the same codeplug. I’ve asked the local dealer that I bought my first one from and Ray’s that I bought the other two from about this difference. Never could get a definitive answer as to why. The two that work the same have serial numbers that start out the same G4DS. The one that never shows the boot up screen serial number starts out G4FS. They all work fine. The G4FS battery doesn’t last nearly as long as the other two 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have a question regarding the battery life on the pagers, are they all scanning the same thing? I was in a different area yesterday working, and I was scanning a different site that was way way busier than my site I usually scan at home and I noticed I only got about 8 or so hours of battery life whereas at home I get usually 10-12. Also I was really on the fringes of the site I was receiving.

Just curious what the situation is with your pagers and perhaps you're scanning different things?

The more active the pager gets the more battery life it takes to accommodate volume and background lights.

Yes while I realize this my question was more pointed towards @GILLIG40 if that's what might be going on in his case with his battery life comparison. Not sure who you were directing your answer at. Thanks.

Older pagers do not have the pager shut down mode to save battery life.

They all scan my zone 1. They all have the same codeplug. I use the G4FS one more because it doesn’t go into boot mode. But even if I swap out the batteries still drains quicker than the other two. Also I noticed yesterday that the Bluetooth on the G4FS will not pair to external speakers that the other two have no problem pairing

That’s exactly how it acts. Like it never completely shuts down. The battery drains even if I haven’t used it. I didn’t know how to decider the serial numbers as to build dates. I had thought that the FS was new than the DS. But your post answered my curiosity as to why it behaves differently.

Ok thanks. I think both my G5s are from 2019, and share the exact same model number. I just recently updated the last one I acquired to 2.02 after running one on 1.35 and the other on 2.02 and was not able to tell any difference between the two. Mine are either in use out of the charger or when the batteries get low in the amplified charging docks so I honestly usually that I've noticed only see the boot up screen after I make changes in the PPS to either of them.

I bought all three of mine in 2022. The G4FS came from Ray’s. That one acts like your 2019s. So it must be older than the other two. ScanFish’s post answered my question. I do appreciate the information on this.
