Independence Day is still two weeks away, but state and local law enforcement agencies will begin their annual Fourth of July crackdown on drunk driving tonight.

When i worked EMS, I had no remorse for drunk drivers. We would on occasion have the honor of drawing blood for PD and I would always make sure I used the 12 gauge needle! And sometimes I made sure I didn't find the vein on the first, second, third or more stick!

So...did you go back and apologize if the person's BAC was under the limit?

Nope! When I filled a red top or purple top, there was usually a head on it!

Not making it sound like we were mean to them, we would always do a dextrose stick on them to ensure they were not diabetic. Once we verified they were not diabetic, then we stuck them! Normally, the only people who complained about us using a 12 gauge to draw blood was either the drunk when they sobered up or a liberal attorney. No law stating what size needle we had to use to draw the blood with. 12 gauge meant it didn't take as long to fill the tube!

And you are proud of doing this?:confused::confused:

Guess you never worked a fatal accident where the drunk walked away from it. Never had to tell the family member that their child/wife/husband was killed by a drunk driver. Never been involved in an accident caused by a drunk driver.

100% proud of what I've done.

Why do you ask? Did I ever draw blood on you?

I like the join agency roadblocks. I am a full supporter of roadblocks. I think any and all agencies need to do them whenever possible.

Does anyone ever go to them after having out the location?

3 rules about listening to a scanner and going to something you heard on it.

1. Do NOT go to the scene
2. Do NOT go to the scene
3. Do NOT go to the scene

Nope, not me. I just find it weird that you'd intentionally inflict pain on someone. Vigilante justice I suppose...

You've never been in an accident with a drunk then. My wife and I were hit head on by an idiot celebrating his divorce, leaving the bar he was at, going over the double yellow to my side of the road. Saw him coming. We were stopped at a red light with now where to avoid the inevitable. His head was hanging down, the lights from my car woke him up. Saw him mouth "Oh S**t". Then his car drove under mine. Made sure my wife was not injured, and got out of the car. Walked over to him and asked if he knew what happened. He couldn't even answer. Reached in the car and shut of the engine. Witnesses said go ahead and bash him up good. Had he hurt my wife, that might have happened. More likely, not. His parents remortgaged their home to keep him from going to jail. Went to the trial, the judge chewed his butt out for his lack of remorse and the fact he was "DEAD" drunk. He blew a .42 at the hospital. He came away with a fractured arm. Very lucky, my bumper stopped six inches from his head. Twenty-six years, and I still remember that night like it was yesterday. Had Mike been one of the first responders, and did what he did, I'd of bought him a coke:) Don't pass judgement if you never have had the experience.

Not intentionally. Been through two on the same day on the Dam Road in Forsyth. First one they checked the registration, the second one was for seat belt violaters. Third was in NC on the way home from a trip up north. They were checking for DUI's and had three vehicles for lockups, Night time lights like those used for road construction, really good looking mobile lab by the way. License, registration and proof of insurance. At all three stops I thanked the SO deputies for taking the time to make the road safer:))

That's no excuse for intentionally using a ridiculously large needle and intentionally missing the vein several times. Last I heard ambulance guys weren't judges, jurors, or executioners.

I'm out of this thread.

Hmmmm...sounds like we're being judgemental by telling people they aren't judges. Lighten up a bit, Pachanga - you'll live longer. Sure ly you don't think he would really do all those things. I know him well enough to know he would never harm someone. That's why he was a paramedic. Probably saved more lives than you and me put together. Not sure why I'm even saying all this since you're "out of here"

New Speed Crackdown Thursday 6/25/09

I like the join agency roadblocks. I am a full supporter of roadblocks. I think any and all agencies need to do them whenever possible.

If you like roadblocks and such you will be in HOG HEAVEN Thursday 6-25-09 as 100 days of summer H.E.A.T. continues. I-75, I-285, I-85, and I-20 are scheduled for high intensity patrols targeting speed and seat belts.

Also Thursday, DeKalb County starts a monthlong focus on the “Move Over” law.

The law, passed in 2003, requires drivers to change lanes or slow down below the speed limit when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle with lights flashing on the side of the road.

I will be listening to local traffic enforcement on I-75 and I-285 via Cobb STEP and GSP.
If I am thinking about it I post via Twitter what I notice on the scanner. Check my sig for @alert_me link.
If you have something neat you heard on local scanner post with @alert_me in your post and others who view that twitter feed will see it

Smyrna PD is big on seat belts so look for their favorite hangouts... and buckle up even if driving around the corner.

BTW did anyone hear this plane crash happen?

A single-engine plane with two people on board was forced to make an emergency landing in a Newton County field on Wednesday afternoon. Both on the plane were injured.

People on board actually walked away with minor injuries. They set the plane down in an area that was cleared out for a subdivision or business. Media said it was a good thing the economy was down because they would have hit structures if they had been built.

When you walk in our shoes, you will understand. It's kinda like when the police catch a cop-killer. I'm sure more than once the perp accidently tripped or fell face first into the pavement.
