I have a galaxy 88hl that transmits and receives but there is no audio from ext or internal speaker. There is a pop noise when turned on but that is it ive cleaned the speaker jacks but still no audio. Even on pa mode there is no sound. I have another radio setup so i know it transmits and the needle is moving when people talk so i know its receiving any help is appreciated.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

These will sound like dumb questions, but to help narrow it down, is your squelch knob turned all the way to the left? Is the RF gain knob turned all the way to the right? PA mode will only work with an external (mono plug) speaker plugged into the PA jack.
Squelch actually doesn't appear to do anything the pot is all wired up, rf gain is all the way up i can see on the meter its receiving signals and the speaker im using is a mono cobra ext speaker that works on all my other radios. Thank you for the reply.
Hmm. That’s a tough one. Since it transmits and receives we can probably rule out a faulty audio chip. The only thing i can think of is that the external speaker plug is bad. If it’s stuck in the “inserted” position it would disable audio to the internal speaker even if nothing is plugged in to it. If it’s broken even an external speaker wont work. It could also have a cold solder joint as those Galaxy’s are pretty old now. Ranger's and Galaxy’s never really did have good solder joints to begin with. I’d start with getting some Deoxit and clean all the pots good (volume/sq/mic/rf/gain/etc). If that doesn't work, pull the top cover off and look at the solder connections for the ext. speaker jack for cracks/loose connection. Short of that, i’m out of ideas. A trip to a local tech might be in order to diagnose and repair it. Good luck.

Just a thought. I don’t know that particular model of CB, but I do know that a lot of CB radios had the audio circuit routed through the microphone wiring. If the microphone was unplugged or a certain microphone wire broken, the receiver audio didn’t work. I know Royce was this way and several others, but I don’t know if that Galaxy is wired like that. When I was working as a CB tech, 75% of the problems I encountered was the result of broken or intermittent mic wires

Yes as in "has modulation" not just a carrier. Good question to have answered.
yes it transmits fine I can hear myself in another radio and a scanner I have setup it is right on frequency as well and when not transmitting it is receiving signals I can see the needle move in the meter, its outputting power in lo and hi so I know it is transmitting.

$400 of obsolescence. Have to add $225 for DSP in the RX end.
$640 for a 40W AM/SSB radio.
I don’t miss them old days when a $260 radio of today blows it out of the water.
