Gallia County, Gallipolis, OH: Anyone in this area monitor our local airport? I've added the freq that our airport (it's unmanned) is supposed to monitor but what I hear seems garbled. I may have an incorrect setting on my Pro-2096. Any suggestions? Thanks, Steve/KB8FAR

I see that it's on UNICOM 123.0.

Does it make that squealing sound like when two AM signals are blending? It may be that there's an interfering signal near you, and when the aircraft talk, the two signals blend and sound distorted. I've heard that happen a couple times. Also make sure you are in AM mode.

You might also try the approach freq 132.95.

The noise also could be background noise. Many private aircraft don't exactly have the best comms equipment when compared to airliners or corperate jets, so there can be a variety of sources: Engine noise, old radios, etc. Comms on the AM band aren't very clear anyways.

Sideband or off freq

Gallia Meigs Regional Actually, the noise or what I hear sounds like it is off frequency. Kind of like a sideband signal....That's why I thought I might have set the Pro2096 wrong....Steve

Hey all,

It may be the radio at the airport as I heard it like that several times before when I was down there. The guy told me they were having trouble with the NDB (non directional beacon) at the airport. Looks like they may have some other communication issues to look at.

I have been to Gallia Meigs several times and I like it because everybody there is so nice.
