how's everybody doing? i live in a apartment, ground floor, and we are restricted from using a outside antenna so i was thinking of using a wire antenna and going all the way around the livingroom and mount the wire where the wall meets the cieling, right in the corner. so my question is, should i use a braided wire, a stranded wire or a solid wire, insulated or bare wire, and also what gage of wire. my reciever is a icom r-75 and it has two connections for antennas on the back, one for coax, and one for a wire antenna, and also is switchable from the front panel. im thinking that this place is going to be a temporary one while i look and find some place better, or until i find something better in the antenna line. anyway if anyone could answer these questions, so i can get up and runniing for now. also if anybody knows of a better antenna to use in my situation, please respond.
thanks

The wire antenna might do well for vhf or shortwave band monitoring.

It won't likely improve monitoring for 800mz and the higher scanner frequencies , but anything is worth trying.

marksmith,

i was talking about shortwave radio. the icom r-75 is a shortwave reciever +50 and is called at times a general purpose reciever, or a world reciever, or a world radio. my 5 scanners work great using the flat window antennas that are used for digital tv's, i have hooked up to them. they have doubled the signal strength, of all my scanners. they do not work well for shortwave, mediumwave, or longwave

This question really belongs in the "Receive Antennas (below 30MHz)" Forum. Have you searched there? Lots of ideas and experiences regarding indoor shortwave (NOT scanner) antennas.
