Gillette Tower's Talkgroups

In Campbell County, on the Gillette towers (Site 2-023, and 2-024) the Police (tg: 14904) is the only talk group I'm hearing, and the occasional stray tg from somewhere random. Shouldn't I also be hearing Sheriff (tg: 14907), and the WHP tg's (19883, 19884, and 19886)? Im helping someone program a digital scanner, but the Rozet Hill tower (Site 2-019) has all the talk groups on them- and it doesn't come in the best since we are in Gillette, (Police, sheriff, and whp). Why am I unable to hear Sheriff and WHP on the Gillette Tower's?

On my feed scanner, im using the Rozet Hill Tower, since I hear everything, but i have to attach a bigger antenna for it to actually pick it up. The person's scanner is a mobile scanner so i cant put a huge antenna on it for it to work. Do the wyolink techs read this or is there a way to contact them? - or is it something im doing wrong?

You can only hear the traffic that is affiliated with a certain tower.

So if the WHP or Sheriffs are not affiliating with the specific tower you want, you are out of luck.

Like here in Casper. Most local traffic affiliates with the POE site. I could hear them better if they were coming off Casper Mountain, but those are the hiccups we are handed as scanner listeners.

Another thing to think about is the fact that the Gillette tower(s) are 800 Mhz- the other agencys' radioes may be VHF only and not using the Gillette towers to comunicate at all.

Talkgroups are not added to towers. TGs are only active when a subscriber radio is affiliated with that tower.

For example, say the sheriff if driving from Gillette to Casper. Initially You could only hear him on a tower in Gillette. As he gets to Casper, his radio will affiliate with the Casper mountain tower. So you could then hear him on the Casper tower (if you were in range). As he goes back to Gillette, he will eventually drop the Casper mountain tower and I as a scanner listener will be unable to hear him.

The towers only carry the TGs that are affiliated in the area.
