Heard from a credible source today that Glenpool PD and FD are going Opensky just like Broken Arrow. Enjoy listening while you can.

If MotoTRBO is French for "non-interoperable", what is Opensky? Chinese for non-interoperable?

Well, here's hoping for patches for you poor unfortunates up there.

You know I almost advocate them going to Pro Voice more then Opensky. Opensky has been flawed from the get go and is an obsolete format. I bet this will cause more problems to an already messed up radio system. That whole EDACS system has had a stinch since Bixby, Glenpool, and Jenks got on and has had nothing but flaws in it from EI EI O , I mean the old EIS communications who dropped the ball on these towns and left them with crappy performance from their wonderful service and installs. Hell, I remember when an officer for Glenpool PD claimed while standing in front of the old PD that he could not get in on his talkie. How's that for safety and interoperability? They think Opensky will solve their problems? No folks, they are going Opensky because they have been sold that no scanner on the market can monitor them. In return they are getting a crappy radio system that will probably not work and put those users safety at risk. You decide??? Pssssfffttt!

What they meant is that no receiver can monitor them. Not a consumer scanner, not a high-dollar HT. Nothing.

Total communications security! We guarantee it!

Bixby, Glenpool, Jenks Open Sky

It is official. They will be going Open Sky with Broken Arrow as soon as they have the funds to do so.

Question: Will we still be able to listen to the Tulsa system when rebanded (ie TPD)

What type of scanner will be needed?

Thanks

Personally I will wait and see what will change in that regard. Currently the Tulsa TRS does not use any of the 866-869 MHz frequencies that would need to be moved to new frequency assignments as required by the rebanding order. However, that doesn't mean they won't move the police, fire, sheriff, ec to P-25 and or implementing encryption in one form or the other. So for now my old Pro 95 serves me just fine.

Will someone explain something to me...I understand that OpenSky is proprietary and does not license out their stuff to just anyone which in turn helps maintain its "unscannable" claim to fame. And to my knowledge, no one in the immediate Tulsa area uses OpenSky except for Broken Arrow.

So when it comes to interoperability, how will it work or will it even work at all with OpenSky? Will they only be interoperable with BA for the time being? Will they have to keep some of their old radios to stay interoperable with the EDACS and Motorola crowd? What about Tulsa or even emergency management crews...how will they be interoperable with them?

Hopefully we will not experience this here:

Recently, Jenks and Glenpool have had to use mutual frequencies on several occasions to, among other things, escort a couple of houses being transported on semi's down some of the back roads and coordinate with each other to block off traffic. I'm not entirely sure that mutual aid frequencies will be a thing of the past once this switch is made. Glenpool has collaborated with OHP, Sapulpa, and Kiefer before in the past and those are not entities that are going to OpenSky. And I don't see how Glenpool seems to think they're so wealthy to shell out $3,000+ per radio just because that new holy Wal-Mart boosted their local economy and egos. Why can't these agencies consider P-25?

In addition to their Open Sky system for their internal use they have some conventional 800 MHz P25 repeaters for interop, in addition they have the ability to initiate a patch through their console between ther OS and their P25, also they maintain a full-time patch to the Tulsa TRS.

The subscriber radios that BA have are capable of Open Sky, EDACS and P25. When other 800 users migrate to P25 interop will not be an issue.

Yesterday I heard BA testing their equipment on interop, on the NPSPAC-3, 867.01250. The Dispatch was giving a count, and was very faint on the freq.
