Was wondering if anyone has travelled into the states lately with thier scanners and if they had any problems?? I am planing a trip in a couple of weeks and dont want to take the scanner with me if their is a chance of it being taken away from me. I do not have a ham licence neither. i plan on going into Montana. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Not sure about Canadian Border Patrol and use of Digital Scanner. Were supposed to get an IC license to have a digital scanner. Not certain if this is still required or enforced, but would try and check with IC before coming back to Canada.

I have taken my 396 over the boarder at least 20 times. Only once I had a problem. I was asked to produce a receipt which I did along with proof of payment of duty and tax.
Even then the inspector wanted to see my serial number on the scanner match the receipt, it did.

Last trip I made in September I had a vehicle full of ham radio and scanner gear, completely visible by all the external antennas. I just presented a copy of my ham license along with my identification and no questions were asked. And this was on entering and returning.

Unless its changed, you can check into Canadian Customs, prior to leaving and obtain what they call a green card, which shows/proves ownership in Canada, they may ask for a receipt. Its a good idea for any high value item if you plan to return with it to avoid hassles.
