I'm interested in a small scanner to be used for moblie install. I have (2) BC785D scanners that are a bit too big for my small truck (Toyota Tacoma Std cab 2dr) however I want all the features the BC785D has such as truck tracking, big backlit "alpha-Tagging" display, well backlighted, etc. Any comments. We have Type 1 800Mhz system here which may go to type 2 motorola digital 3800 baud "maybe" in future they say. All now is still not digital yet. I'd install the BC785D but it is just a bit too large for my very small truck cab.

The BC780/785/796 are the best small mobile units right now. Radio Shack is comming out with a DIN sized (car stereo sized) mobile version of the Pro-96 called the Pro-2096 that will be the size of the old Pro-2067. It sounds like that scanner might meet your needs best. It will do digital, so the price might be higher than you want. You might consider the old 2067. It is basically the mobile version of the Pro-92.

You could do like me and use a handheld. I use a CB rubber duckie style antenna along with my Uniden BC296d or PRO-96 (depends which tickles my fancy) and a cigarette lighter cord and away i go. Plus it's easily removed from sight or extreme temperatures. And i consider myself just as serious a scannist as someone with 1 or 2 mobile units up under the dash. Thats what works for me. It might not for you but it's a suggestion.

PRO's-
2053, 2067, *future 2096, 2051*
Those are the line up with tagging, the 2067 has also has CTCSS/CDCSS. The 2067, and the future 2051 are LTR capable. The 2096 will be digital.

For non trunked there are the old 2026, 2046, and 2066.
