Apparently, pay issues [usually an on call status dispute] have been plaguing the Special Assignments Unit at Goodyear Police and with a failure to resolve the dispute, have caused the collective team to resign from the SAU [SWAT] team. The team is not a full time assignment and the officers involved are likely to return to patrol/investigations that they were previously assigned to.

The city claims that there is no impact to the city, no additional risks, etc. This assumes that no incidents requiring SAU personnel/training/equipment are needed to mitigate or address threat. Having seen this first hand, this is not the case. MCSO has primary responsibility for assisting agencies within Maricopa County and AZDPS might respond, but they can take hours to get to a scene. Other agencies can respond, but they do incur costs and those costs are passed on to requesting governments.

GYPD is a bit of a mess and has been for several years. Lots of growing pains and executives/managers who think that current practices do not apply to them.
