Anyone played around with the layers? I just mapped out the antennas in my area that I listen off of... Actually pretty cool. Works well with getting radius' together for the GPS enabled Scanners...

Stupid question, sorry for asking, but where do you get the exact coordinates for the antenna/police stations to plot? I already have Google Earth and would like to do this with my version.

Minus looking up individual licenses on the FCC's website, you can look in the database for your county.

Just click on the license (first pic). This will take you to a new webpage that will show all the freqs in use under that license and their location. (second pic) You can see RR will load a map. I've highlighted where the lat/lon is at for you.

Wow, thanks for the fast response. I like the detailed example of my actual FD. Nice touch, now I have to get to work on this plotting plan.

Now to be even stupider, RR is giving me lat's & long's of 40.0xxxx and -74.0xxxx, Google Earth has degree signs, and ' ticks. It is not accepting the information I am getting off the database. I am in Google Earth, under add placemark.

Add it like this: 40.0XXXN 74.XXXW

You should be able to copy & paste the decimal lat/lon from the FCC data page (picture above) directly into Google Earth or Google Maps. I do it all the time an never had a problem.

You should also be aware that the latitude and longitude listed on the FCC license sometimes has typos or errors and is not always the exact location in real life.

Yes, be very cautious of using them. What I do (for the ones maintained in the DB here) is look up the license here on the site and see if the map makes any sense at all. If so, then use it. If not, and you know about where the tower is in your area, use Google Earth to find it by zooming in (provided your detail is good enough), then you can mark it.

RR doesn't have it in the database for the tower my city is on so I searched everything in the FCC and it came up with this 37-17-51.2 N, 077-17-29.2 W. How should I put that in Google Earth?

Roger that, best to zoom in to the exact site and Edit Place Mark -> select View -> click Center in View box, then Drag to location. Exact Lat/Lon will follow your drag.

I noticed some are right on the money, and others have put a PD's transmitter about a mile off the coast into the Atlantic Ocean. Very funny. Lou said it best, the ones that make sense use, others, I am manually editing. Looks like a fun Sunday project to me.

Tom:
Thanks for the help

Dave:
The FCC gave me the right cooridnates even though I wouldn't doubt if it sometimes gave the wrong ones.
