I have been trying for a couple of days to transmit on the 10 meter band with no luck.. I have tried a 10 meter ham stick and also a 17" whip on a tri pod. The FT-710 just does not want to transmit on 10 meters. I have tuned both antennas to less than a 1.5 SWR with my NanoVNA and after which I hit the tuner on the FT-710 and it will not tune it further. The Ft-710 will not transmit at all even after I try to tune it with the 710's tuner. I have no problems on 20 meters the FT-710 tunes it with ease. The FT-710 acts like I have high SWR but my Nano say it is great. Also the FT-710 High SWR light does not come on indicating high SWR. Any suggestion?

Have you tried transmitting into a dummy load? Is the frequency within the 10 meter band? What mode are you using?
Bill
Frequency are 28.300/28.500. I have not tried a dummy load. I am using Phone mode. It works fine on 20 meters just not on 10.

Is it new, used? Do you know if it ever worked on 10 meters? So when you key the mike and speak does anything happen? Lights flash, meter moves etc.?

Have you tried doing a full reset on the radio? It's possible that it is in some configuration where it doesn't think it can transmit on 10m.

BTW, with a Technician class license, you have no transmitting privileges on 20m.

I'll assume you have the mic plugged in and you're testing on USB. Are you talking into the radio on 10 meters or just keying up? Is the meter set to reflect the output on the radio or some other mode? (ie SWR, compression, or other). Also have you actually put the radio on a wattmeter and checked for output? (again talking on SSB, not simply keying the mic).

Again.....the radio works fine on 20 meters, so the mic is plugged in and on USB. I am trying to talk on 10 meters but there is no forward deflection of the meter when it is on ALC. The transmit light does come on that indicate it is transmitting, but as with the 20 meter band there is no obvious transmit taking place. Everything works fine on the radio except it will not transmit on 10 meters. The needle will not move off zero even if I yell into the mic.

From what I have seen on some other radio's they will not transmit when there is a high SWR. I assume this is what is happening but my nanoVNA tells me different. There seems like there is a miss match between the radio and the antenna. The Yaesu manual has no trouble shooting steps listed.

Yes, I have did a full reset more than once. I understand I have no privileges on 20 meters hence the reason I would like it working. That does not stop me from listening or for some other general licensed person from doing so.....

Well guys, I feel like a complete idiot! I have been going to the band button and choosing 10MHz as the 10 meter band all along knowing it should be on 28/29MHz band. Simple fix. Thanks to the guys at Ham Radio Outlet for helping me out. And thanks for all your input! On to the next problem when it arrises.........

Here's one of those somewhat silly questions:

Are you seeing consistent ALC readings (if any) when connected to the antenna that's giving you trouble? Also, I'm guessing you don't have BOTH tuners operating simultaneously trying to duke it out for the best SWR reading? Lol! That would be problematic all by itself.
