• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My friend gave me an old Radio Shack TRC-865 CB radio and an old Antron-99 antenna. I used to have a CB station back in the late 80's but ended up getting my ham license in 1989. I ended up giving my CB away. But we thought it would be fun to set up CB stations again, although I am not sure how much I will actually use it. The antenna was an old Antron 99 that he bought back in early 90's. When he got his ham ticket shortly after, this antenna sat unused for years in his backyard. So today I got a VERY HEAVY 20' metal pole and mounted the Antron on it. I weatherproofed the connection and ran 65' of LMR-240 coax to my room. The 20' pole is mounted inside a bigger steel pipe thats buried in the ground. And I guyed the pole in 3 places. So the Antron 99 was cut for the lower end of 10 meters back when my friend (and all of us) were active on 10 meters in early to late 90's. I connected everything and the CB has an acceptable match on all 40 channels averaging 1:6 SWR. The CB has sideband capabilities so tonight we're going to test it out. We probably wont use the AM mode really, but SSB will work better. I listened around this afternoon and there is only 1 channel (21) with local activity. The only thing is my wife hasnt seen the Antron yet! It's on the side of garage behind a holly tree. Its pretty visible from street though. I didnt think it would look so obvious once I got it put up. It's just a matter of time before she notices it. And I did get the "no more antennas!" speech not long ago. But the good news is you cant see it from in the house.

That's a TRC-465 not TRC-865. Good little SSB radio. It's a nice radio to use as a base station. I would still be using mine but I think my pot for the clairifier dial or whatever is dirty. Last time I had it into a shop I told them to clean it. However the problem was never fixed. It's very hard for me to tune in on SSB it will slide off very quickly and easily just by touching the dial. Other than that. Great radio.

I've had mine since I was a teenager back in the early 90's. That was a top notch radio from Radio Shack back in the day.

Past two weeks Skip has gotten rolling around 1330-1430 CDT wherever I am Midwest to the Central South.

AM-19 has too many bozos at that point, so I ck LSB-20, 28 & 38 (non-scanning radio) to see who’s out & about.

Have fun!

That antron 99 is a bad ass antenna. I still have mine from back in the 80's. If I can find the right base station, I will get back into cb. seems only a few make base stations. I like the 10m base radios tweeked like I use to run. Good ol days.

I had left CB radio back in the mid-1990's until recently as well, working amateur and commercial comms. Just some trucker traffic up here in the Pacific North West, but got my own CB radio out for a recent road trip to Montana a few months back. Cobra 75 WX ST with a cheap magnet mount antenna. Using that last summer had me dig out my old Cobra 2000 GTL basestation. However, I have yet to add the antenna to the roof, as I have received that "no more antenna" speech as well, having three up already. Good luck on your CB comms, and back into the fold of CB.
