Question for GPS users on the Uniden 436. How do you use the GPS, only for the frequency database in the USA to change channels on the move?
I'm interested in writing the coordinates of the received signal to a file. But I noticed that the coordinates are recorded only in the Discovery search mode. In Quick or Custom mode, coordinates are not recorded anywhere. Checked in the program Universal Scanner Audio player 3.0.7. Please advise on this matter.

The first 255 bytes in a recorded file are reserved for data info. Record a frequency and then record it again but with the GPS disconnected. Use a hex editor to look at the two files and compare their first 255 bytes if they differ other than their TG or user ID.

I made a few recordings in analog mode, but didn't see the difference I wanted to see. There are differences in absolutely all records, I did not find how this difference is related to the GPS. Please tell me what I should see.

I would have thought that if a GPS are connected it should always save that info in a recorded file, as well as the date and time. But maybe Uniden "forgot" and they need to be alerted thru JoeBearcat's wish list to add coordinates in all recorded files at all times.

If it is not there that would be a feature addition which would be a lower priority than bug fixes. I never understood why the date/time is not there. I recall it being brought up to Paul a few times but alas, it was not added.

Since the topic of recording GPS coordinates in an audio file has been raised, as experienced comrades, please tell me: is this implemented in SDS 100/200?

"coordinates of the received signal to a file."

1- Do you want the coords of where the radio is when it is received?

2- Or do you want the coords of the transmitter?

All that the radio would even know is #1. #2 is either what is already in the database, unlless mobile and there is no way the radio would receive that info.

Yes, 1# item. Scanner + gps receiver record the received signal and write to each file in addition to TG, ID and also gps coordinates. Any received signal will be with the coordinates in the file and you can then find out the place where it was received. This is a beautiful theory. In fact: what models have it? Above, I asked a question about the SDS series - does it support this?

Normally, on the audio files that I harvest and copy to my laptop to view with the Universal Scanner Audio Player, there no location data in them, (The player has field for that data).

As a quick test, I made a quick favorites list, with a few very active conventional channels, and copied that to my SDS200. That specific test list was set to use location control.

After letting it run to capture a good sampling, I copied the files to my laptop and opened the player. The location data was

Very interesting! During testing, did you connect the GPS receiver to the scanner?
Can I ask you to take a screenshot of the audio recording in the hex file where the coordinates are recorded?

I do not have a GPS connected. I simply appended a couple of systems that are definitely in range from my residence, then set the resulting list to use location control. If I were driving down the highway, in a distant location in Texas or another state, where I was unfamiliar with who was using what radio system, then in that case, I would have a GPS connected, and let the scanner use the main database to enable and disable systems as they came into, and then pass out of, range.

I don't have a program that would open the *.wav file to see the data you are looking for. For the SDS series scanners, you cancustomize the display to show the latitude & longitude fields on the display in place of other items. There's only a few fields where latitude & longitude can be shown from the list of available details that can be used in that specific field.
