I didn't know all this but Sherman hates the TAIT system its on with Gainesville and plans to build a Motorola System of its own shared with Grayson Co. They do, DO plan to encrypt the whole thing. County Fire will move to inherit the current Sheriff's repeaters which are full P25 and abandon the current analog repeaters. Sherman will be connected to the current Denison system and also include Van Alstyne. Grayson SO has been on local news discussing how they have needed to upgrade their radios. I guess this is it. Fannin is also headed to digitize its fire repeaters but will remain a VHF conventional system. Sherman/Grayson to go APXNEXT for subscriber units. Look for changes as soon as the end of summer 2026. And thank that Grayson Co. scanner dude for the encryption.

Has this been before the Grayson County Commissioner's Court and Sherman City Council yet? I'm not seeing anything in Van Alstyne's agenda. And even when it does get funding, you're looking at over a year to build it out.

While it would be nice to see a unified county-wide (if not a Texoma region wide) system (albeit without encryption, but that's not a battle I can fight), the reason Sherman and Denison ended up on separate systems to begin with was because of politics. Both systems are not that old, and I would be surprised Sherman would be so gung-ho to replace it this soon unless it's a safety risk and unreliable (and in that case, I'd think they'd be suing Tait and the company that designed/installed it to get some of their money back).

Do you have a link to your news source? I found an April 22nd story on KTEN where the Sheriff's office was complaining about old equipment and needing more money, and they were trying to get money through Austin to make up for the local shortfall.

As tight as the County Commissioners are with a dollar, I can't see them going for this unless there is some .gov or Austin money involved. If they find a way to fund a new jail and office, maybe.

The Late April KTEN story was my media reference point.

So one of the Fannin Co. Firefighters had to visit Shipman for something unrelated and got all of this from the current owner.

The thing I don't get is Shipman says they can sell the entire Motorola system, I thought the vendors couldn't do that.

I'm still digging for info on this from more credible sources, so I'll get back when I get more info. I thought Tait was solid stuff, can see Sherman trashing it so soon either. I wonder if it's an inter-operability issue?

Also, and I have no way to verify this, Sherman was supposed to be a Motorola system but to save money they let Gainesville on with Tait. They're supposedly getting grants to finish the system structure as Motorola and buy new NXT subscribers units. Fannin had quietly been installing 800 mhz antennas on its fleet to eventually go APX NXT likely LTE. I'm not sure how all that is going to work in a county with no towers.
