Greetings,

I am trying to manually program the New Jersey State Police trunking system into a GRE-400, by fat fingering it into the front panel, using the instructions in the user manual. I have all the info from this site, as well as KC2KZZ's web site.

My lack of success makes me feel like a nit-wit, after 20+ years of radio experience, (to include trunking systems). When I'm all done, it's just like I programmed in discrete frequencies and hit scan. Box does not follow calls, and stops on control channels.

Has someone broken the code, or is the best answer to just invest another 30 bucks and buy programming software?? I really just want the NJSP system and selected talk groups.

I have a GRE-600 and it works wonderfully. Thought I could get by on the cheap by using a 400 just to monitor the NJSP trunking system.

I'm getting to be an expert at initializing a GRE-400. :(

Make sure the control channel frequencies are set to the correct mode (MOT for Motorolla), and that the bank itself is also in the right mode (again MOT for Motorola)
The reason it's stopping on those frequencies is because the scanner doesn't know that they're control channels.

Thank You Chris,

I will have to go back and look at the directions again. I think it's the book that is a little abstract, or assumes you have read the whole thing cover-to-cover, when you get into programming trunking.

Check in the RR Wiki for the easier to use Pro-97 manual. It is easier to follow than the GRE manual. Basically the same radios. The 97 is the older version.
