GRE 800 CPU Firmware Problem

I am trying to update my CPU firmware from 1.0 version to the1.8 version.

When I press the Menu button on the front of the scanner while connecting the cable to the computer
I keep getting an error message that says.

"could not open scanner port. Error code port does not exist.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What operating system are you using? If it is Windows 8 there are work a rounds on prior threads on the GRE forums.

Thanks Swipesy for the information. I'll have to try a few of the suggestions in the LithiumMan post.
I had no problem before when I was using a different computer.
