Why is there no official announcement from GRE as yet ?

Quite possibly because they're not ready to make a public announcement. What started these threads wasn't due to any official announcement, but from private information from one (or more) of the affected individuals that the company that they worked for had shut down operations and they no longer had a job.

Quite often any official public announcement of this type has to be crafted carefully and only released after specific legal and contractual steps have been taken. A hasty or poorly worded announcement or officially releasing it without completing those necessary steps can open the company officers to legal action, both by regulating agencies and creditors. That's why we often have information of the kind we have gotten here leaked by non-official sources well prior to any official announcement.

There's also the possibility that the company isn't ready to make any official announcement since they could be working to spin off, sell, or otherwise save what part(s) of the company that they can. Any official announcement may cause those negotiations to end without any hope of keeping any part of the business alive.

An official announcement of some kind would go a long way to stopping all the speculation and misinformation. It would also help to clarify what is really happening and put some people's minds at ease.

Are we not able to verify our own information here because the "Boss" said it's true?

You absolutely can. As you may have seen in the big thread, a RR member verified it by driving to the GRE America office in California and asking.

Why is there no official announcement from GRE as yet ?

Because there's little advantage to GRE Japan making such an announcement, frankly. What would they gain?

Plus, in my experience, Japanese companies aren't always as forthcoming about business arrangements as similarly situated US companies. Especially when it comes to bad news.

GRE America is a separate entity, and probably isn't in a position to say anything publicly about GRE Japan. They may even be contractually prevented from doing so. At some point, if Japan continues to be silent, they'll probably HAVE to formally announce something... at least about their inability to fulfill future orders.

Assumption that rs would have a clearance sale the fact they jacked the prices up around the similar timeframe this thread started, wouldnt they discount the radios... back to their previous prices?
In turn still getting a profit while people think they are getting a big discount.

This whole thing is un-fair to their customer base. I will NOT make any additional comments here as I want to remain profesional.

Why would they do that? It's not happening.

I was told by a Radio Shack manager (for what it's worth) that GRE is definitely "out", and that is why they are now promoting Uniden scanners, as no more GRE products will be manufactured. Although I personally prefer Unidens, a little competition is always good.
