Any base is going to work better than a handheld.

How do you figure that ?

The internal electronics and firmware are the same as the problematic 500

Improved reception, and ability to add a directional antenna if needed.

What prevents you from putting your portable scanner on a "directional antenna'?

The antenna connections are exactly the same. (both are BNC) And even if they weren't you could still connect your portable rig to a yagi (directional antenna)

Nothing does. But in general, when you check the receiver specs of base vs handheld, it's better with a base.

I wouldn't expect that to hold for the PSR-500 vs PSR-600, given that the RF circuits are identical. Maybe packaging/shielding has some effect, though.

I would think that the PSR-600 would be better at resisting nearby electronic RF interference. It has an outside and inside metal case, better grounding, and the board layout of the same "RF circuit" is separated and enclosed to avoid spurious signals. This is not to say it will be as sensitive as the PSR-500 as most of the GRE radios are.

I would like to know if the speaker will be bigger or sound better on the 600 over the 500?

Also is the display the exact same size?

The internal speaker should be the same size as the GRE OEM PRO-2054, 2055, and 2096. larger than the internal PSR-500 speaker. It also has an external speaker connector.

It will crank....
The PSR-600 should crank right up like the PRO-2096 and PRO-2055.
Add a good external speaker and it will blow you out of the car.....

Giddy up....
