I have used one for a year now on my Pro 96 with the RS 800Mhz rubber duck. It makes the difference between hearing and not hearing at all 800 Mhz digital signals. I also use a Hamtronics preamp on my outside 800MHZ antenna and it too makes a large difference.

Hope this helps.

How well it works will depend on teh signal level and the noise level, trunking and P25 are not relevent.

Then how do you explain the fact that in my case a analog 800 system and a digital 800 system only 10 miles apart horizontally from my location the analog can be hear without a preamp but the digital cannot be heard? Yet with the preamp both can be heard. Seems to contradict what you are saying. Seems to me to say that the preamp helps a weaker digital signal.

Just because two systems arethe dsame distance does NOT mean that the received signal level is the same.

You also do not know if the sensitivity of youir receiver is the same on the two sets of channels.

You also do not know if the background noise in the area is the same for both sets of channels.

The fact that one is digital and one is analog should not matter (other than your receiver may have different sensitivity for the two different types of modulation).

And yes, pre-amps help weaker signals more than stronger signals, ALL ELSE being the same!

Problem

I added one to my system tonight ... It helps rcv conv channels, but loses all 800 truncked, APCO 25, a type IIi, and a type II. I take it out of line and get the signals back?? Whats up with it??

Using BC796D and Discone ant.

The Amp is brand new from GRE.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the 2 systems are transmitting at different power levels? When was the last time you heard the guys at the KMART 10 miles down the road on your scanner?

Yup, sure did. That is my point exactly, the preamps work great on boosting weak signals in rural areas with low noise levels.

Life must be real dull in Nevada if all you have to listen to is K-Mart

Have never listened to them, just making a comparison because you obviously weren't getting it.
