GRE600 manual programming

I have this:

But even this "easier to read" version is.....wow...holycrap.....can't find the instructions for the simple things I'm trying to do.

I can put it into the manual mode, and it shows me scan list 1. I don't know, can't seem to find out....how many scan lists there are in this thing.
I need to find out what is programmed into this thing, and add a few more channels. All conventional analog. I see where it tells how to add....but I don't wanna do that until I see what's actually in the thing.

Anyone got some manual programming chops that could assist?

Once you are in manual mode, use the up and down arrow buttons to see what is programmed in that list. To move to a different list, use the left and right arrow buttons in manual mode.

get a software package to program the scanner, not only will you save time but you can do other things that you cant do manually like deleting channels.

Technically, those are not "channel numbers". They're 'object numbers'. Your PSR600 uses Object Oriented programming. If you add something, it gets an object number. If you delete something, that does not resort the object numbers. You have a 'hole' or vacant spot, however you want to call it.

As ka3aaa suggested, software makes things much easier. There are three programs that can be used for your scanner:

All of them have a 30-day free trial period. Using software, you can re-sort & reorder the objects, though it is not a requirement. Since you are a Premium Subscriber, you can use the software to import channels and trunked systems from the database, instead of entering manually.

Yeah, that's a little more difficult to explain. Each conventional channel is technically an object, as mentioned above, which is assigned an object number. The same object can be assigned to many scan lists. So, what's really important is simply what is in the list; the numbers assigned to the individual objects can be ignored. Up to 1800 objects can be programmed into the scanner if desired so there is plenty of room.

There are 20 main scan lists (accessed on the front panel by pressing 1-10 and FUNC 1-10 while scanning). There are two special scan lists as well (one for Favorite objects {scan list 21 accessed by pressing FAV button} and one for Skywarn objects {scan list 22 accessed by pressing FUNC then WX}).

If you are only programming conventional frequencies you may not require software however most counties have digital systems if you wish to monitor police/fire and then a software program is very helpful.

Sounds like you might be confusing "Scan Lists" and "Object Numbers"
Object Numbers are just like the old Channel #, but you need to link an Object back to your Scan List

I own a GRE PSR 500 with a screwed up BNC module. I only used Win500 to program this radio. In my opinion, manual programming is like self-flagellation. It is very difficult to see all of the various setting through a narrow window. With Win500, not ARC 500, you can see the TSYS and associated talk groups. There are folks who will likely help you with files for your listening areas.

600 is the GRE version of the radio shack pro 106, 651, whistler 1040 so any videos on youtube will apply as well as all those models desktop versions.

Its much easier to manage these type of scanner with software. If you can afford the scanner the software isn't much more and it will save you endless hours of frustration.

I use ARC500 Basic software to program my Radio Shack Pro-197, the brother of your scanner, and find it very fast and easy to use. It also works for the GRE PSR-600.

Which frequencies, systems, and agencies do you want to monitor? It would help to know your city, county, and state.

Since you say frequency I assume you mean non trunking.
