Hoping to grab a local enthusiasts attention here.
We monitor PD, FD, and EMS in Green, Taylor and Adair Co. This year, to the best of my knowledge (which is currently limited), some agencies have moved to digital systems and rendered our current equipment useless. Browsing the RR db, I see Green Co. EMS listed as P25 which would be monitorable with a Uniden HP1, but a few other members have mentioned that Green Co, among others, may actually be using Nexedge.
Can someone clarify what systems are in use in these counties and what would be required to resume listening again? I'm trying to help an older family member who has basically lost his major source of entertainment and local information. Hopefully we can do this in the form of a new scanner for Christmas but I dont want to spend the dough on an HP1 if it's a waste of time.
Also, I am still learning here, in the db I see the "Tone" listed for various freq's. I understand this as being a means to separate various radio traffic. Does the tone need to be considered when programming a radio? It is my understanding that with no regard for the tone, all traffic would be received, no matter what. The reason I ask is, our current scanner has pretty much stopped receiving the bulk of activity in Green Co, but the RR db only shows one agency (and only part of that agency) as being digital. I'm wondering if a reprogram of our current scanner is in order. Or just perhaps the db is out of date. I even suspect that Green Co. fire is operating P25 radios on the EMS license, but Green Co. fire is still shown as FM.
Any input at all here would be greatly appreciated, and perhaps we can get to a point where we more accurately represent at least these 3 counties in the db.
