Having finally gotten my 2 scanners set up to my satisfaction (well, as of today) it dawned on me there's more I need to know. I thought I knew which fire departments were which, but I guess not. Comparing addresses to responding units, there's only 1 department I'm sure of. G4, G40 etc. are Noank. The rest I'm not so sure of. Multiple online searches have displayed all kinds of phone numbers to whatever search terms I use. Does anyone know of a listing anywhere of the Groton town and city departments?

Poqounock Bridge FD is the letter G and their equipment is numbered in the 30's i.e. G32, G35 etc.

City of Groton FD is the letter G and their equipment is numbered in the 20's i.e. G28, G26 etc.

The Navy FD is the letter N and their equipment is numbered in the 60's i.e. N62 etc.

The Groton Ambulance is just G300, G301, G302 and I think G303.

Noank, Center Groton and Mystic which you hear from time to time ( I don't recall their equipment numbers) but they Operate on Fire Ground East along with Poqounock Bridge FD.

City of Groton and Navy, Electric Boat and Pfizer are under Fire Ground West.

It depends on the situation but usually the Fire Ground East or West are the operating frequencies that are dominant frequencies. Check and put in the frequencies from the RR Database for Groton and you'll won't go wrong!

I hope this helps you!

Doc - yes I have the RR info, but as snowscout said I was looking for id's of the responders announcing they were "on scene" etc. I was aware from seeing the Noank equipment who they were, since the apparatus has large numbers painted on them. Snowscout thanks for the info!

sefrischling - Thanks for the timely info! (Considering the turnout for the kayaker)!
I am sitting on the couch in Chesterfield, staring at the back of M300 (Chesterfield , being "M3") ... listening to Mohegan (being "M2", not to be confused with Mohegan Tribal Fire Department dispatched by "PQ" and referred to over the air as "The Tribe") toned out on the other side of Montville to go cover Gales Ferry (being "R2", as opposed to Ledyard, which is "R1") as Mutual Aid for the missing kayaker. I am happy to stay in here where is is warm and dry .

Forgot G2 also City of Groton - Eastern Point station apparatus. G-21 (engine) and a service truck runs out of there as well. Just in case he hears them sign on. Unless they changed the apparatus designations there?

Sefrischling, Think I should convince my bosses to go back to "F"??? LOL

Mohegan Tribal (Mohegan Sun) is Station U. Mashantucket Pequot (Foxwoods) is Station PQ.

L & M Medics heard testing on CLMRN this past week. Where are these units stationed? Also, slightly off topic, looking for Middlesex Medic locations with unit numbers. The last I knew there were 3 of them, but when they were testing with Valley Shore on CLMRN, there were more.

My thanks to all for the responses! Now I'm wondering who assigns the numbers? Is it documented anywhere? Is there a logic to it or were the numbers just drawn out of a hat?

South Eastern NL County uses an "alphabet" series of numbering
Northern NL County uses a "Number" system shared with Windham and Tolland County's
Middlesex county has two numbering systems, and includes a few 'out of Middlesex' county department.
There are also a few switching to 'plain english. There is an older cheat sheet somewhere in this Connecticut Forum from a number of years ago.

Whoops, sorry for omitting G2 ... brain fart. I was just doing it off the top of my head. I don't even think about it when I hear the unit IDs any longer.

Made this XL file up a few years back. Things have probably changed since I left CT.
